We aim to develop a solid-phase extraction (SPE) based on a dummy molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) and liquid chromatography-tandem quadrupole mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for selective determination of four pyridine carboxylic acid herbicides (aminopyralid, picloram, fluroxypyr, and clopyralid) in milk samples. Using picloram as the dummy template, MIP nanocomposites with highly selective recognition and adsorption for the target molecule and its structural analogs were successfully synthesized by precipitation polymerization. Adsorption isotherms and kinetics were used to determine the adsorption performance and specific recognition mechanism of both MIPs and non-molecularly imprinted polymers (NIP).

Effects of cellulase hydrolysis, acid treatment and particle size distribution on the structure, physicochemical and functional properties of coconut cake dietary fiber (DCCDF) were studied. Results showed that both the cellulase hydrolysis and acid treatment contributed to the structural modification of DCCDF as evident from XRD, FT-IR and SEM analysis. Moreover, the cellulase hydrolysis enhanced soluble carbohydrate content, water holding capacity (WHC) and swelling capacity (WSC), α-amylase inhibition activity (α-AAIR), glucose dialysis retardation index (GDRI) and cation-exchange capacity (CEC) of DCCDF; but it had undesirable effects on colour, oil holding capacity (OHC) and emulsifying capacity (EC).

Purpose: To investigate the expression of sirtuin type 1 (Sirt1) and adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and to explore the mechanism of their functions in NSCLC.
Methods: Cancer tissues (NSCLC group) and the adjacent normal healthy tissues (control group) of 50 patients with NSCLC were selected, and H&E staining was performed to identify the histopathological differences. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), immunofluorescence staining and Western blot were performed to detect the expression of Sirt1 and AMPK in tissues of NSCLC group and control group.

The p53 tumor suppressor plays a critical role in protecting normal cells from malignant transformation. Development of small molecules to reactivate p53 in cancer cells has been an area of intense research. We previously identified an internal ribosomal entry site (IRES) within the 5' untranslated region of p53 mRNA that mediates translation of the p53 mRNA independent of cap-dependent translation.

The effects of acidic treatment, cellulase hydrolysis, particle size distribution and pH on the adsorption capacity of defatted coconut cake dietary fibers (DCCDF) were studied. The results demonstrated that cellulase hydrolysis could significantly improve the soluble dietary fiber content, water holding ability and adsorption ability of DCCDF on cholesterol, bile and nitrite ions. Acidic treatment enhanced the oil holding capacity and adsorption ability in cholesterol and nitrite ions.

Background: Compared to the rigid image registration task, the non-rigid image registration task faces much more challenges due to its high degree of freedom and inherent requirement of smoothness in the deformation field. The purpose was to propose an efficient coarse-to-fine non-rigid medical image registration algorithm based on a multilevel deformable model.
Methods: In this paper, a robust and efficient coarse-to-fine non-rigid medical image registration algorithm is proposed.

The present study was aimed to investigate the effect of benzothiazole on the invasive and metastasis potential of HeLa DH cervical cancer cells and the underlying mechanism. HeLa DH cervical cells were cultured with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 μM concentrations of benzothiazole for 48 h. Benzothiazole treatment did not induce any cytotoxic effect on HeLa DH cells after 48 h of incubation.

The present study investigated the effects of microRNA-374 (miR-374) on human squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis through P53 signaling pathway by targeting growth arrest and DNA-damage-inducible protein 45 α (Gadd45a). Skin samples were collected from patients with skin SCC and normal skin samples. Expression of miR-374, Gadd45a, P53, P73, P16, c-myc, bcl-2, Bax, caspase-3, and caspase-9 were detected using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blotting.

Astrocyte elevated gene-1 (AEG1) was identified to be overexpressed in breast cancer, and to be associated with the development of breast cancer. In the present study, AEG1 was identified as highly expressed in the MCF-7, MDA-MB-231 and SK-BR-3 breast cancer cell lines and was detected in the MCF-10A normal breast epithelial cell line. The present study established an AEG1-knockdown MCF-7 cell line to investigate the expression status of certain cancer-associated proteins.

Previous studies have shown that Lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBPs) serve an important role in antioxidant activity to protect the cells and tissues. However, the specific mechanism of LBPs in the prevention of endometrial damage remains to be elucidated. Using morphological observation, cell proliferation assay, the detection of superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in cell culture supernatant fluid, the detection by western blot analysis and reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction of the mRNA and protein expression levels of caspase‑3 and Bcl‑2 in endometrial stromal cells (ESCs), it was demonstrated that, in vitro, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced death of ESCs, increased the content of MDA and decreased the activity of SOD, and decreased the expression of Bcl-2 and increased the expression of caspase‑3.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of GSTM1 null/present, GSTT1 null/present, and GSTP1 IIe105Val polymorphisms with the chemotherapy response and overall survival of advanced NSCLC. Two hundred and sixty-two patients with histologically confirmed advanced NSCLC (inoperable TNM stages IIIA, IIIB, and IV) were enrolled to this hospital-based study between May 2009 and May 2012. The GSTM1 null/present, GSTT1 null/present, and GSTP1 IIe105Val polymorphisms were genotyped by polymerase chain reaction coupled with restriction fragment length polymorphism.

Recent studies have shown that angiotensin II (Ang II) or angiotensin-(1-7) [Ang-(1-7)] has effect on the proliferation and activation of a variety of cells, however, the exact mechanisms that the role of Ang II or Ang-(1-7) in human endometrial stromal cell (ESCs) remains elusive. Here we demonstrated that Ang II could promote proliferation and activation of ESCs, up-regulated the expression of a-SMA, TGF-β1 and IGF-I, increased the secretion of extracellular matrix [Type I collagen (Col I) and fibronectin (FN)] of ESCs; Ang-(1-7) could inhibit Ang II induced the proliferation and activation of ESCs, down-regulated the expression of a-SMA, TGF-β1 and IGF-I, decreased the secretion of extracellular matrix (Col I and FN) of ESCs. These findings suggest that Ang-(1-7) can inhibits Ang II induced the proliferation of ESCs, Ang-(1-7) can inhibits the Ang II induced activation of ESCs and decreases secretion of Col I and FN by suppressing TGF-β1 and IGF-I expression.

Intrauterine adhesions (IUA) may be caused by endometrial stromal cell proliferation, increases in myofibroblasts or increases in extracellular matrix secretion. However, the specific mechanisms underlying the development of IUA have yet to be elucidated. The present study identified that angiotensin (Ang) II is capable of promoting endometrial epithelium cell (EEC) proliferation and the transdifferentiation of EECs into myofibroblasts.
