Comparision of lateral, medial, and posterior approaches in the surgical treatment of pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the functional and radiological results of lateral, medial, and posterior surgical approaches in pediatric patients undergoing open reduction and internal fixation for supracondylar humerus fractures.

Methods: A total of 86 patients were included in the study. The clinical and radiographic results of the treatment in patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation with lateral, medial, and posterior approaches were evaluated.

Quantification of cell-free circulating mitochondrial DNA copy number variation in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Objective: Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common primary malignant liver tumor. Mitochondrial DNA copy number has been shown to be associated with various malignancies. However, there has not been any study on the absolute quantification of mtDNA copy number in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Association of abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness with hepatic steatosis, liver enzymes, and serum lipids in obese children.

Introduction: Childhood obesity can cause hyperlipidemia and hepatic steatosis at early age and chronic disease complications in adult life. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness (ASFT) and hepatic steatosis, serum lipid and transaminase levels in obese children.

Population And Methods: A retrospective study was conducted with children (aged 4-18 years) who presented to outpatient clinic due to obesity.

A new variant of double common bile duct associated with choledochal cyst.

Extrahepatic bile duct duplication is a rare biliary anomaly often associated with conditions like cholecysto-choledocholithiasis, choledochal cyst and malignancy. Precise preoperative diagnosis using conventional radiologic imaging still remains a challenge and use of existing classification system is equally confusing. A female patient diagnosed with choledochal cyst by magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography was found to have an associated new variant of double common bile duct during surgery.

Treatment of ureteral catheter related symptoms; mirabegron versus tamsulosin/solifenacin combination: A randomized controlled trial.

 OBJECTIVES: The double-J (DJ) stents are commonly used to relieve the ureteral obstruction. Besides several known benefits, some of the patients encounter stent-related morbidities with considerable effects on the quality of life, general health situation, sexual matters, and daily work performance. In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness of tamsulosin/solifenacin combination and mirabegron in reducing DJ stent-related symptoms.

Pattern of primary tumors and tumor-like lesions of bone in children: retrospective survey of biopsy results.

Background: Although primary bone tumors are relatively uncommon, they constitute the most important tumors in patients less than 20 years. We aimed to determine the frequencies of primary bone tumors and tumor-like lesions of bone and the anatomical sites of their occurrence.

Methods: A retrospective review of histopathology reports of all bone specimens received in a private pathology laboratory in Istanbul between 2009 and 2015.

Diagnostic value of fine needle aspiration biopsy in non-thyroidal head and neck lesions: a retrospective study of 866 aspiration materials.

Aim: We aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) and compared our FNAB results of non-thyroidal head and neck lesions with excisional biopsy results.

Materials And Methods: A total of 866 aspiration material taken from different parts of head and neck region out of thyroid were evaluated at Haydarpasa Numune Training and Research Hospital Pathology Laboratory, between January 2002 and May 2013 and 248 of which has histopathologic response were included in the study. Patients depending on origin of the masses were divided into three categories as; salivary gland, lymph nodes and soft tissue/cystic lesions.
