Aim: To study trajectories of HbA1c in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients referred to diabetes outpatient clinics (DOCs), and to explore characteristics of referrals and patient pathways in patients treated in DOCs.
Methods: We retrospectively followed T2D patients from the Norwegian population-based ROSA 4 study to identify persons with T2D who were referred to a DOC. We used latent class trajectory modelling to identify subgroups of patients with similar patterns of HbA1c one year before to one year after the first consultation at a DOC.

Integrating digital pathology and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms can potentially improve diagnostic practice and precision medicine. Developing reliable, generalizable, and comparable AI algorithms depends on access to meticulously annotated data. However, achieving this requires robust collaboration among pathologists, computer scientists, and other researchers to ensure data quality and consistency.

Biological maturity significantly impacts youth athletes' physical performance throughout adolescence. However, how this differs between male and female youth athletes remains unclear. Thus, the present study aimed to assess associations between maturity, physical performance and motor coordination in females and males.

This review provides an overview of existing data from the literature summarizing therapies for exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) with 2 main areas of focus. We discuss the role of speech-language pathologists in the assessment and treatment of EILO and an overview of different respiratory retraining techniques used in the behavioral management of the disease. We then discuss the role and some of the technical specifics of supraglottoplasty (SGP) for refractory supraglottic EILO, including patient selection and similarities between SGPs performed for EILO and for infants with laryngomalacia.

The observation that the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease is reduced in individuals with high premorbid cognitive functioning, higher educational attainment, and occupational status has led to the 'cognitive reserve' hypothesis. This hypothesis suggests that individuals with greater cognitive reserve can tolerate a more significant burden of neuropathological changes before the onset of cognitive decline. The underpinnings of cognitive reserve remain poorly understood, although a shared genetic basis between measures of cognitive reserve and Alzheimer's disease has been suggested.

Introduction: Detection and surveillance of fetal growth restriction (FGR) is well established, but there is still room for improvement. Animal studies indicate that compromised fetuses increase adrenal blood flow. Modern ultrasound equipment allows us to measure vascular impedance in the fetal adrenal arteries despite their modest size.

Introduction: Confusion regarding methadone metabolism exists, hampering optimal clinical use. A systematic review was conducted to assess the impacts of cytochrome P450 (CYP) genetic polymorphisms on methadone outcomes.
Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and CENTRAL were searched to identify studies reporting methadone dose-adjusted plasma concentrations, clearance, maintenance dose, or treatment response in relation to polymorphisms in humans.

Unlabelled: The definition of the microbiology of pleural space infection has been challenging due to the poor yield of conventional culture. Here, the results of a 16S ribosomal RNA gene PCR/sequencing assay performed on pleural fluid in routine clinical practice between August 2020 and January 2023 were evaluated. Amplified 16S rRNA gene DNA was submitted to Sanger sequencing and/or next-generation sequencing or results were reported as negative, depending on PCR crossing threshold value.

Background And Purpose: As digital health services become increasingly important in osteoarthritis treatment, understanding patients' digital health literacy (eHL) is crucial, including those undergoing total hip and knee arthroplasty (THA/TKA). We primarily aimed to provide eHL norms in a representative group of Norwegian patients, and secondarily to examine the relationships between eHL and health-related quality of life (QoL).
Methods: We invited 800 randomly selected THA/TKA patients from the Norwegian Arthroplasty Register to complete a paper-based questionnaire, which included sociodemographic variables.

Resazurin, a phenoxazine used in cell viability assays, acts in vitro as an anti-leukaemic compound through the production of cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) resulting in mitochondrial dysfunction and cell death. However, the in vivo tolerance and efficacy of resazurin in cancer are unknown. In this study, we investigated the in vitro and in vivo effects of resazurin in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).

The backbone of induction therapy in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is to use an anthracycline in combination with cytarabine. Despite recent advances in AML therapy, this treatment remains the standard, and it has been largely unchanged for decades. There are few curative options for patients unfit for this treatment.

Aim: In the context of mortality, heart failure (HF) represents an intermediate factor and should not be used to describe underlying cause of death (UCoD). We explored the potential educational gradients in use of HF to describe UCoD using national data spanning more than 30 years from Norway.
Methods: Using a cross-sectional design, we linked data from the Cause of Death Registry and the National Education Database.

Background: How cognition is influenced by electroconvulsive treatment (ECT) and major depressive disorder (MDD) is still debated. The development and etiology of neurocognitive impairment in MDD were examined by investigating the cognitive profile following ECT related to the state, scar, and trait perspectives, with the former predicting improvements parallel with depressive symptoms, while the two latter expected persisting impairments. Executive functions (EF) and attention are central to cognition and alterations in these functions could influence other domains like memory.

Background: Guidelines recommend follow-up within 2 weeks for patients starting medication for depression. Knowledge is lacking about how general practitioners' (GPs) follow-up varies with patients' sociodemographic characteristics.
Objective: To describe follow-up by GP and specialist in mental healthcare provided to men and women with depression within 3 months of starting drug therapy.

Background: Our aim was to investigate oral health in newly diagnosed head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patients in relation to long-term survival. We assessed whether the level of alveolar bone loss due to periodontitis at diagnosis, measured from orthopantomogram (OPG), and reported dental health-related quality of life (HRQoL) scores obtained at diagnosis contain prognostic information for HNSCC patients.
Methods: A total of 79 patients from a consecutive cohort of 106 diagnosed with HNSCC between November 2002 and June 2005 were included.
