Does coiling of the proximal end of the ureteral stent affect stent-related symptoms?

Objective: To evaluate the impact of coiling of the proximal end of the ureteral stent on stent-related symptoms (SRS) in in subgroup of patients undergoing preoperative ureteral stenting preceding flexible retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS).

Materials And Methods: We performed a prospective comparative study including patients undergoing stent placement 7-10 days prior to RIRS. Patients were divided into 2 groups; in Group 1 coiling of proximal end of the DJ was present, while in Group 2 coiling was absent.

Background: Alemtuzumab is approved in the European Union for treating highly active relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). Patient-reported outcomes measure the treatment impact on quality of life (QoL), including fatigue, a common symptom in multiple sclerosis (MS). Chronic diseases like MS also affect the patient's caregiver.

Objective: This study aimed to identify proteins associated with clinical manifestations of knee osteoarthritis (KOA), including performance-based joint function and patient-reported outcome measures (PROM).

Methods: This cross-sectional exploratory study included thirteen individuals with KOA and eleven age-matched controls. All participants performed the 30s Single Leg Mini Squat test and 30s Sit-to-Stand test with simultaneous recording of joint kinematics.

A temporary hospital intensive care unit: a preparedness concept to increase intensive care capacity.

Introduction: Norway faced the possibility of the most significant strain on its intensive care capacity in decades during the COVID-19 pandemic. All Regional Health Authorities in Norway were instructed to prepare for an increase in Intensive Care Units (ICU) capacity demands. To address the surge in demand for critical care, a gymnasium within Haukeland University Hospital premises was planned to be used as a 20-bed temporary ICU.

Health-Related Quality of Life During Carfilzomib-Lenalidomide-Dexamethasone Consolidation: Findings From the Multiple Myeloma CONPET Study.

Background: In the CONPET study, multiple myeloma patients with abnormal 18FDG positron emission/computed tomography scan after upfront autologous stem cell transplantation were treated with four cycles of carfilzomib-lenalidomide-dexamethasone (KRd). Side effect registrations show that carfilzomib might cause dyspnea, cough, respiratory tract infections, and heart failure. The aims were to investigate patient-reported shortness of breath and dyspnea during KRd consolidation.

Health-related quality of life among extrapulmonary tuberculosis patients and inequalities by disease manifestations: a longitudinal study analysing the impact of TB treatment.

Background: To understand the impact of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) and its treatment on quality of life, we analysed patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) among presumptive ETPB patients.

Methods: EuroQol's five-dimensional three-level (EQ-5D-3L) questionnaire and the Visual Analogue Scale (EQ-VAS) were used to measure PROMs by 274 presumptive EPTB patients at pre- and post-treatment stages. The patients were categorised as TB and non-TB by using a composite reference standard.

Contemporary assessment of short- and functional 90-days outcome in old intensive care patients suffering from COVID-19.

Purpose: There are limited data about the outcome of old intensive care (ICU) patients suffering from Covid-19 in the post-vaccination era. This study distinguishes the pre- and post-acute illness living conditions of ICU survivors from non-survivors.

Methods: This prospective international multicenter study included 642 old (≥ 70 years) ICU patients, including data ranging from pre-illness condition to functional 90-days follow-up.

Background: Outcome measurement is essential to progress clinical practice and improve patient care.

Aim: To develop a Core Outcome Set for best care for the dying person.

Design: We followed the Core Outcome Measures in Effectiveness Trials (COMET) Initiative guidelines, which involved identifying potential outcomes via a systematic literature review (n = 619 papers) and from participants in the "iLIVE" project (10 countries: 101 patients, 37 family members, 63 clinicians), followed by a two-round Delphi study, and a consensus meeting.

Efficacy of a TNF inhibitor in chronic low back pain with Modic changes type 1: The BackToBasic study A randomized controlled trial.

Objective: The efficacy of TNF inhibitors for treating chronic low back pain with Modic changes is uncertain. This study investigated the superiority of infliximab over placebo in patients with Modic changes type 1.

Methods: In this multicenter, randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled trial, patients aged 18-65 with moderate to severe chronic low back pain and Modic changes type 1 were enrolled from five Norwegian public hospitals between January 2019 and October 2022.

Effects on HbA1c of referral of type 2 diabetes patients to secondary care.

Aim: To study trajectories of HbA1c in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients referred to diabetes outpatient clinics (DOCs), and to explore characteristics of referrals and patient pathways in patients treated in DOCs.

Methods: We retrospectively followed T2D patients from the Norwegian population-based ROSA 4 study to identify persons with T2D who were referred to a DOC. We used latent class trajectory modelling to identify subgroups of patients with similar patterns of HbA1c one year before to one year after the first consultation at a DOC.

Understanding Speech-Language Pathology and Surgical Interventions for Exercise-Induced Laryngeal Obstruction.

This review provides an overview of existing data from the literature summarizing therapies for exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) with 2 main areas of focus. We discuss the role of speech-language pathologists in the assessment and treatment of EILO and an overview of different respiratory retraining techniques used in the behavioral management of the disease. We then discuss the role and some of the technical specifics of supraglottoplasty (SGP) for refractory supraglottic EILO, including patient selection and similarities between SGPs performed for EILO and for infants with laryngomalacia.

The observation that the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease is reduced in individuals with high premorbid cognitive functioning, higher educational attainment, and occupational status has led to the 'cognitive reserve' hypothesis. This hypothesis suggests that individuals with greater cognitive reserve can tolerate a more significant burden of neuropathological changes before the onset of cognitive decline. The underpinnings of cognitive reserve remain poorly understood, although a shared genetic basis between measures of cognitive reserve and Alzheimer's disease has been suggested.

Animal studies indicate that compromised fetuses increase adrenal blood flow. Modern ultrasound equipment allows us to measure vascular impedance in the fetal adrenal arteries despite their modest size.

Methadone metabolism and cytochrome P450 polymorphisms: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Confusion regarding methadone metabolism exists, hampering optimal clinical use. A systematic review was conducted to assess the impacts of cytochrome P450 (CYP) genetic polymorphisms on methadone outcomes.

Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and CENTRAL were searched to identify studies reporting methadone dose-adjusted plasma concentrations, clearance, maintenance dose, or treatment response in relation to polymorphisms in humans.

Parental epigenetic age acceleration and risk of adverse birth outcomes: the Norwegian mother, father and child cohort study.

Background: Few studies have examined associations between maternal epigenetic age acceleration and adverse birth outcomes, and none have investigated paternal epigenetic age acceleration. Our objective was to assess the associations of parental (both maternal and paternal) epigenetic age acceleration in relation to birth outcomes.

Methods: Parental epigenetic age was estimated using seven established epigenetic clocks in 2198 mothers and 2193 fathers from the Norwegian Mother, Father, and Child Cohort Study (MoBa).
