Norwegian National Burn Center, Department of Plastic, Hand, and Reconstructive Surgery, Haukeland University Hospital, Bergen, Norway; Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Bergen, Norway.
Background: The "one-day-per-percent" rule states that for burn patients, one day of hospital stay can be expected for each percentage of burned body surface. This study aimed to test the rule's predictive value.
Methods: The study is a register-based observational study on all burns treated in the Norwegian National Burn Center 2000-22.

Background: Comorbidities complicate the management of tuberculosis (TB) and have become an essential part of the end TB strategy to eradicate TB. However, pulmonary TB has received the most attention, and little is known about the impact of comorbidities and other factors on outcomes in patients with extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB).
Objectives: Our aim was to analyze the factors associated with hospitalization and mortality in EPTB at a hospital in Central India, using non-TB patients with similar clinical presentations as a comparison.

Background: Patients with major burn injuries are prone to massive blood loss owing to tangential excision of burn wounds and donor skin harvesting. In general, topical application of the antifibrinolytic drug tranexamic acid (TXA) to surgical wounds reduces bleeding; however, its effect on bleeding and re-epithelialization in superficial wounds of burns has not been explored.
Methods: This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic potential of topical TXA in reducing blood loss and its effect on wound re-epithelialization in burn surgery.

Background: Circulating insulin and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) concentrations are positively correlated with adiposity. However, the causal effects of insulin and IGF-1 on adiposity are unclear.
Methods: We performed two-sample Mendelian randomization analyses to estimate the likely causal effects of fasting insulin and IGF-1 on relative childhood adiposity and adult body mass index (BMI).

Illness trajectories in people with first-episode psychosis (FEP) vary significantly over time. Identifying early-course parameters predicting outcomes is essential, but long-term data still needs to be provided. We conducted a 10-year follow-up study of a comprehensive first-episode psychosis (FEP) cohort investigating the prevalence of clinical recovery (CR) and treatment resistance (TR) after ten years, as well as clinical, demographic, and pre-illness predictors of long-term outcomes.

Background: The aim of our study was to compare implant survival rates of different total hip arthroplasty (THA) bearings in the Nordic Arthroplasty Register Association.
Methods: All conventional primary THAs performed between 2005 and 2017 in patients aged more than 55 years who had primary osteoarthritis were studied. Metal-on-highly cross-linked polyethylene (MoXLP), ceramic-on-highly cross-linked polyethylene (CoXLP), ceramic-on-ceramic (CoC), and metal-on-metal (MoM) bearings were included.

Aims: Atrial fibrillation (AF) and coronary artery disease (CAD) have several common risk factors, and 10-15% of patients with AF undergo percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Little is known about changes over time in modifiable risk factors and self-reported health in patients with and without a history of AF after PCI. Therefore, the aims were to determine and compare changes in modifiable risk factors and self-reported health in patients with and without a history of AF after PCI.

Objective: Previous studies indicate a possible bidirectional stimulatory relationship between parathyroid hormone (PTH) and adrenocortical hormones, but the pattern of adrenocortical secretion in hypoparathyroidism is unknown. We aimed to characterize the adrenocortical secretion in patients with postsurgical hypoparathyroidism, and whether continuous subcutaneous PTH (1-34) infusion alters secretion patterns.
Design: Crossover interventional study.

The molecular pathogenesis of degenerative parkinsonisms, including Parkinson's disease (PD), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), and Multiple system atrophy (MSA), remains largely unknown. To gain novel insight into molecular processes associated with these diseases, we conducted a proteome-wide expression study in prefrontal cortex tissue from a cohort of 181 individuals, comprising PD (N = 73), PSP (N = 18), MSA (N = 17) and healthy control (N = 73). Using marker gene profiles, we first assess the cellular composition of the samples and, subsequently, identify distinct protein signatures for each disease, while correcting for cell composition.

Neurofilament light chain (NFL) is elevated in neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's disease (PD). This study aimed to investigate serum NFL in newly diagnosed PD and its association with cognitive and motor decline over 10 years. Serum NFL levels were measured in PD patients and controls from the ParkWest study at diagnosis (baseline) and after 3 and 5 years.

Background: Adolescents with attention-deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have an increased risk of self-harm. The risk of self-harm among adolescents who display an elevated level of ADHD symptoms, but without a formal diagnosis, is not well-studied and understood.
Objective: To investigate the relationship between self-reported symptoms of ADHD and self-harm in a population-based sample of adolescents.

Objectives: To compare the sensitivity of 2019 European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology/American College of Rheumatology (EULAR/ACR) classification criteria against 1997 ACR criteria for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), for incident SLE cases in the presumably complete population-based Nor-SLE cohort from Southeast Norway (2.9 million inhabitants).
Methods: All cases International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) coded as SLE during 2000-2017 were individually reviewed.

Purpose: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a diagnosis defined by gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms like abdominal pain and changes associated with defecation. The condition is classified as a disorder of the gut-brain interaction (DGBI), and patients with IBS commonly experience psychological distress. The present study focuses on this distress, defined from reports of fatigue, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, and performance on cognitive tests.

Background: Cognitive deficits such as difficulties with attention, memory, and executive functions are frequently reported during remission from depression and relates to adverse functioning in daily life and risk of relapse. There is therefore a need for interventions targeting cognitive deficits after depression. However, few randomized controlled trials have investigated the efficacy of interventions targeting subjective residual cognitive deficits in adults remitted from depression.
