The occurrence of arterial and venous thrombosis during coronavirus infection has been widely reported since the beginning of the epidemic. Floating carotid thrombus (FCT) in the common carotid artery is exceptional and its main known cause is atherosclerosis. We describe the case of a 54-year-old man who developed, one week after the onset symptomatology of related to COVID-19 infection, an ischemic stroke, complicating a large intraluminal floating thrombus in the left common carotid artery.

Intravenous Thrombolysis with Tenecteplase for the Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke.

Ann Neurol

September 2022

Department of Neurology, Karolinska University Hospital, and Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden.

Objective: Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) with tenecteplase has been associated with better clinical outcomes in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients with confirmed large vessel occlusions compared to IVT with alteplase. However, the utility of tenecteplase for the treatment of all AIS patients eligible for IVT has not been established.

Methods: We compared the safety and efficacy of tenecteplase versus alteplase in AIS patients by analyzing propensity score matched data from 20 centers participating in the Safe Implementation of Treatments in Stroke-International Stroke Thrombolysis Register.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focused on evaluating the prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus producing Panton-Valentine leucocidin (PVL) in children with osteoarticular infections, finding that 46% of the cases were PVL-positive.
  • - Conducted over two years, the research included 37 hospitalized children, revealing that a majority were male (70.6%), with most coming from rural areas, and various factors were linked to PVL infections.
  • - The findings highlighted the need for regular PVL diagnostic testing and better management strategies due to the high incidence of methicillin-susceptible S. aureus in these infections, which can lead to serious complications.

Intravenous thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) is the first effective approved treatment for reducing ischemic stroke disability, and having a stroke within 3 months is usually a contraindication to thrombolysis. In this paper, we describe the case of a 58-year-old patient who received repeated intravenous thrombolysis at 10 days interval for a recurrent ischemic stroke, with dramatic improvement. The carotid diaphragm was behind this recurrent stroke and it was treated by stenting.

Department of Neurology Hassan II University Teaching Hospital, Fez, Morocco; Laboratory of Epidemiology, Clinical Research, and Health Community, Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah University, Fez, Morocco.

Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a rare but serious complication of ulcerative colitis (UC) with a high morbidity and mortality rate. CVT is not usually readily recognized and treatment may be delayed, impacting on the prognosis. Here we are reporting 2 cases of CVT occurring during a relapse of ulcerative colitis (UC) with review of literature.
