Department of Medical Genetics, Haseki Education and Research Hospital, Health Sciences University, Istanbul, Turkey.

The 9p deletion syndrome, which was defined in a detailed way in the previous studies, was characterized by various clinical features such as psychomotor retardation, dysmorphic features and genital anomalies. In contrast to 9p deletion syndrome, 20p duplication was rarely reported in the literature with only a few case reports. Regarding the combination of 9p deletion syndrome and 20p duplication, we found that it was reported in only four patients.

Background: We aimed to study the predictive value of preoperative perform [18F] Fludeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography ([18] FDG PET-CT) for survival in liver transplantation due to hepatocellular cancer.

Methods: Ninety-six patients who underwent liver transplantation for hepatocellular cancer (HCC) after preoperative PET-CT evaluation were examined for the study. All patients' ages, genders, body mass index, blood groups, Child-Pugh and Model for End-Stage Liver Disease scores, etiologies, median Alpha Fetoprotein values, Milan Criteria and T stages, grades, macrovascular and microvascular invasions, multicentricities, maximum and total tumor sizes, tumor number findings in explant specimens, and recurrence rates were analyzed statistically.

Background: The optimal treatment for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) after the second line is still controversial. Regorafenib has been the standard of care in this setting as it improved overall survival (OS) compared to placebo. In real-world practice chemotherapy rechallenge is also a preferred option even though supporting evidence is not enough.

Background: Epileptic encephalopathy with spike-and-wave activation in sleep (EE-SWAS) is a syndrome of childhood, characterized by diffuse or generalized spike-wave activity in electroencephalography during non-rapid eye movement sleep. Neuropeptides have been demonstrated in several studies to function in the sleep-wake cycle and display convulsant and anticonvulsant features. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between EE-SWAS and neuropeptides such as dynorphin, galanin, ghrelin, leptin, melatonin, and orexin.

The prevalent form of ichthyosis in neutral lipid storage disease (NLSDI) is nonbullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma (CIE) characterized by fine, whitish scales on erythematous skin over the whole body. Here, we report a late-diagnosed, 25-year-old woman with NLSDI presenting with diffuse erythema and fine whitish scales throughout the body with patches of apparently normal skin, "islets of sparing" on her lower extremities. We observed that the size of the normal skin islets changed with time, and even the entire lower extremity was covered with erythema and desquamation like the rest of the body.

Diagnostic and Prognostic Biomarkers of Coronavirus Disease 2019 in Children.

J Trop Pediatr

February 2022

Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, İstanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Istanbul 34098, Turkey.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the use of specific biomarkers to predict the diagnosis and severity of COVID-19 in children, as there is a lack of established predictors for pediatric cases.
  • Researchers analyzed blood samples from 89 children, including 69 diagnosed with COVID-19 (in varying degrees of severity) and 20 healthy controls, measuring levels of various cytokines and inflammatory markers.
  • Increased levels of interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), interleukin-12 (IL-12), and interferon gamma-induced protein 10 (IP-10) were found in COVID-19 patients, indicating their potential as early diagnostic indicators, while D-dimer and IP-10 levels correlated with disease severity in severe cases.
