The Association between Vitamin D, Interleukin-4, and Interleukin-10 Levels and CD23+ Expression with Bronchial Asthma in Stunted Children.

Biomedicines

September 2023

Division of Allergy Immunology, Department of Child Health, Faculty of Medicine Universitas Padjadjaran, Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung 40161, West Java, Indonesia.

Children with stunted growth have an increased risk of wheezing, and studies have shown that low levels of vitamin D and interleukin (IL)-10, along with increased IL-4 levels and CD23+ expression, are present in stunted and asthmatic children. To date, it is not known whether these factors are related to the incidence of asthma in stunted children. This case-control study investigated the association between vitamin D, IL-4, and IL-10 levels and CD23+ expression with bronchial asthma in stunted children.

Partial-thickness rotator cuff tears (PTRCTs) are often found in daily orthopedic practice, with most of the tears occurring in middle-aged patients. An anaerobic process and imbalanced oxygenation have been observed in PTRCTs, resulting in oxidative stress. Studies have shown the roles of oxidative stress in autophagy and the potential of unregulated mechanisms causing disturbance in soft tissue healing.

Introduction: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is a risk factor for the occurrence of a large of (Mtb) antigen load in the body. The antigens cocktail namely early secretory antigenic target protein 6-kDa (ESAT-6), Culture filtrate protein 10 kDa (CFP-10), and protein 64 (MPT-64) are secreted by Mtb during replication, hence, their concentration increase in patients with active Tuberculosis (TB). This increased levels facilitates their entry into the systemic circulation, followed by secretion by the glomerulus into the urine.

Introduction: Systemic lupus erythematosus in children generally manifests more severely with a more aggressive disease course. Cardiac involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus often does not show specific signs and symptoms, but speckle-tracking echocardiography can detect cardiac dysfunction. This study aimed to determine the differences in left ventricular function as measured by speckle-tracking echocardiography in children with various severity of systemic lupus erythematosus activity.

  • Partial unilateral lentiginosis (PUL) is a skin pigmentation disorder that presents as multiple brown spots on one side of the face, which can be effectively treated with specific lasers like the copper bromide (CuBr) laser.
  • A 35-year-old woman with PUL showed improved skin tone and satisfaction after two sessions of CuBr laser treatment, which used dual wavelengths (511 nm and 578 nm) spaced one month apart.
  • The treatment resulted in lighter skin with no side effects while highlighting the role of vascular factors in melanocyte behavior, suggesting the CuBr laser's dual-wavelength approach is promising for PUL management.

Breast cancer (BC) is a heavy burden for Indonesian healthcare, but there is still no thorough evaluation for Breast self-examination (BSE) practice as routine BC screening. In this study, we aimed to synthesize the pooled prevalence data of BSE practice, compare BSE practice prevalence between Java Island and non-Java Islands in Indonesia, and identify the determinants that we thought could affect the BSE practice in the Indonesian population. Intensive searches were conducted in Cochrane Library, PubMed, Google Scholar, and SINTA (Indonesian Web of Science and Technology Index) from September 2017-2022.
