Introduction: Posterior spinal fusion (PSF) is the gold standard procedure for curve correction in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS). Enhanced recovery protocols (ERPs) have been found to decrease pain and hospital length of stay (LOS) resulting in decreased total hospital charges.

Melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R) and very late antigen-4 (VLA-4, integrin αβ) are 2 attractive molecular targets for developing peptide radiopharmaceuticals for melanoma imaging and therapy. MC1R- and VLA-4-targeting peptides and peptide-conjugated Cornell prime dots (C' dots) can serve as delivery vehicles to target both diagnostic and therapeutic radionuclides to melanoma cells for imaging and therapy. This review highlights the advances of MC1R- and VLA-4-targeted radiolabeled peptides and peptide-conjugated C' dots for melanoma imaging and therapy.

Accurate detection and quantification of metastases in regional lymph nodes remain a vital prognostic predictor for cancer staging and clinical outcomes. As intratumoral heterogeneity poses a major hurdle to effective treatment planning, more reliable image-guided, cancer-targeted optical multiplexing tools are critically needed in the operative suite. For sentinel lymph node mapping indications, accurately interrogating distinct molecular signatures on cancer cells in vivo with differential levels of sensitivity and specificity remains largely unexplored.

Although important advances have been achieved in the development of radiolabeled prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-targeting ligand constructs for both diagnosis and therapy of prostate cancer (PCa) over the past decade, challenges related to off-target effects and limited treatment responses persist. In this study, which builds upon the successful clinical translation of a series of ultrasmall, dye-encapsulating core-shell silica nanoparticles, or Cornell Prime Dots (C' dots), for cancer management, we sought to address these limitations by designing a dual-modality, PSMA-targeting platform that evades undesirable accumulations in the salivary glands, kidneys, and reticuloendothelial system, while exhibiting bulk renal clearance. This versatile PCa-targeted particle imaging probe offers significant clinical potential to improve future theranostic applications in a variety of patient care settings.

Controlling the biodistribution of nanoparticles upon intravenous injection is the key to achieving target specificity. One of the impediments in nanoparticle-based tumor targeting is the inability to limit the trafficking of nanoparticles to liver and other organs leading to smaller accumulated amounts in tumor tissues, particularly via passive targeting. Here we overcome both these challenges by designing nanoparticles that combine the specificity of antibodies with favorable particle biodistribution profiles, while not exceeding the threshold for renal filtration as a combined vehicle.

The poor prognosis associated with malignant melanoma has not changed substantially over the past 30 years. Targeted molecular therapies, such as immunotherapy, have shown promise but suffer from resistance and off-target toxicities, underscoring the need for alternative therapeutic strategies that can be used in combination with existing protocols. Moreover, peptides targeting melanoma-specific markers, like the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1-R), for imaging and therapy exhibit high renal uptake that limits clinical translation.

Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an excellent treatment option for the patients with end-stage renal disease, having been shown to yield improved patient satisfaction and economic benefit. Many surgeons and physicians believe that patients with prior abdominal surgeries or other abdominal complications are not viable candidates for PD and that prevalent PD patients needing abdominal surgery should be switched to hemodialysis. The purpose of the present review is to address those misconceptions.

When fresh garlic is soaked in aqueous ethanol under ambient environment over 4 months or longer, the majority of irritating taste and odor is eliminated and the antioxidant profile in the resulting aged garlic extract (AGE) changes significantly. Recently, AGE and its components have been demonstrated to exert neuroprotective effects in neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, and cerebral ischemia.

Prior studies of AGE have mainly focused on its organosulfur compounds, with little attention paid to its carbohydrate derivatives, such as N-α-(1-deoxy-D-fructos-1-yl)-L-arginine (FruArg). The goal of this study is to investigate actions of AGE and FruArg on antioxidative and neuroinflammatory responses in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated murine BV-2 microglial cells using a proteomic approach.
