Synovial sarcoma: A radiologic case report.

Synovial sarcoma is a common but aggressive subset of sarcomatous tumors that often arises adjacent to the large joints of extremities. We present a case of a 33-year-old male with no medical history and an initial complaint of right leg pain. On further radiological and pathological investigation, he was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma in the medial soft tissues of his thigh.

Thyroid disorders in patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection: a meta-analysis.

Background: Thyroid disorders have significant clinical sequelae, including impaired growth in children, metabolic abnormalities, and impaired cognitive function. However, available studies on burden of thyroid diseases in people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), particularly its prevalence and its interaction with HIV related factors (like CD4 count), are controversial. This review aimed to provide a comprehensive summary and analysis on the extent of thyroid dysfunctions in this population.

Plasmodium ovale: Exploring an Atypical Presentation.

Malaria is an infection caused by five different Plasmodium species. The most common are is more rarely reported and mostly has a benign course. We present a case of a 40-year-old male with a six-day history of headaches, chills, and fever who was initially evaluated in our emergency room, from where he was discharged after a negative workup for malaria.

When common cognitive biases impact debriefing conversations.

Healthcare debriefing is a cognitively demanding conversation after a simulation or clinical experience that promotes reflection, underpinned by psychological safety and attention to learner needs. The process of debriefing requires mental processing that engages both "fast" or unconscious thinking and "slow" intentional thinking to be able to navigate the conversation. "Fast" thinking has the potential to surface cognitive biases that impact reflection and may negatively influence debriefer behaviors, debriefing strategies, and debriefing foundations.

Users of chronic prescription opioids decrease in the first 12 months following bariatric surgery.

Objective: Obesity is an independent risk factor for chronic pain frequently treated with opioids. Our study investigated the effect of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) on chronic opioid prescription use.

Methods: Using the IBM MarketScan database (2010-2017), we analyzed adult chronic opioid users who underwent bariatric surgery.

Cervicofacial emphysema: A systematic review.

Cervicofacial Emphysema (CFE) is a self-limiting condition, defined by the presence of air in face and neck. The purpose of the manuscript is to systematically review the existing literature on CFE evaluation and management for updated clinical understanding of this condition. A literature search was conducted of publications about CFE on PubMed and Google Scholar by identifying all the articles with key search terms "Cervicofacial Emphysema" and "Sub Cutaneous Emphysema".

Analysis of outcomes of penetrating colonic injuries managed with or without fecal diversion.

Traumatic colorectal injuries can be managed by either fecal diversion or primary repair / resection and anastomosis. We aimed to study differences in outcomes in adult patients managed with or without fecal diversion at time of initial operation. The National Trauma Databank (NTDB) was used to identify adult patients (ages 18-64 years) with penetrating colonic injuries for the years 2013-2015.

The literature presents conflicting results about the patterns of abnormal lipid profile among patients with betathalassemia. This systematic review aimed to assess dyslipidemia patterns among patients with betathalassemia when compared with healthy individuals.

Testing the Feasibility of a Newly Developed Lifestyle Practice Targeting Social Connections: Narrative Healing Circle Shared Medical Appointments.

Unlabelled: The aim of this pilot was to assess the feasibility and acceptability of virtual Narrative Healing Circles (NHC), a new form of Shared Medical Appointments (SMA) among mixed diagnosis population within an urban tertiary academic medical center.

Methods: Multi-method, voluntary recruitment of eligible patients, included referrals, flyers, hospital events page, and patients who participated in an ongoing 7-week integrative oncology SMA series. Two physicians (lifestyle medicine and chaplaincy specialists), both trained in narrative medicine, co-led one-hour long virtual NHC SMAs held every other week for a total of either 4 or 8 sessions.

Vascular lesions: Hemangioma or venous malformation?

We present a case of a 62-year-old female who was incidentally found to have a venous malformation. Venous malformations are part of a larger category of slow flow vascular malformations and are associated with various familial syndromes and localized intravascular coagulation. Venous malformations were often misdiagnosed as hemangiomas; however, the treatment modalities of vascular malformations and hemangiomas vary significantly.

A Rare Case of Large-Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma Metastasizing to the Brain: A Case Report.

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) encompass a diverse spectrum of neoplasms that can originate from various sites, including the gastrointestinal tract. Brain metastases from neuroendocrine tumors, while rare, present significant clinical challenges. In this case report, we present the unique instance of a 50-year-old female with a history of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumor who manifested left-sided weakness, tremors, and recurrent focal convulsions.
