Fractional nitric oxide measurement in exhaled air (FeNO): perspectives in the management of respiratory diseases.

Exhaled nitric oxide (NO) production, upregulated by inflammatory cytokines and mediators in central and peripheral airways, can be easily and non-invasively detected in exhaled air in asthma and other respiratory conditions as a promising tool for disease monitoring. The American Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society released recommendations that standardize the measurement of the fractional exhaled NO (FeNO). In asthma, increased FeNO reflects eosinophilic-mediated inflammatory pathways and, as a biomarker of T2 inflammation can be used to identify asthma T2 phenotype.

How to test adhesive strength: a biomechanical testing for aortic glue used in type a dissection repair.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to develop a method to quantify the peel force in an in vitro model simulating repair of ascending aortic dissections with tissue glue (Bioglue).

Methods: This study adapted an adhesive T-Peel test for the determination of the peel strength of adhesives by measuring the peeling force of a T-shaped bonded tissue. Measurements were performed on iatrogenic dissected ascending porcine aorta, which has been repaired with Bioglue using different pressure levels.

The airway epithelium comprises of different cell types and acts as a physical barrier preventing pathogens, including inhaled particles and microbes, from entering the lungs. Goblet cells and submucosal glands produce mucus that traps pathogens, which are expelled from the respiratory tract by ciliated cells. Basal cells act as progenitor cells, differentiating into different epithelial cell types, to maintain homeostasis following injury.

Introduction: Supracondylar fractures are common pediatric elbow injuries, with management in developing countries presenting challenges due to limited resources, inadequate facilities, and a lack of trained personnel.

Method: This study aimed to describe the incidence, demographics, clinical presentation, treatment methods, and outcomes of supracondylar fractures treated at Ashraff Memorial Hospital (AMH)-Kalmunai, a base hospital in Sri Lanka. This is a retrospective descriptive study conducted between January 2019 and December 2020.

Aims: To assess the additional prognostic significance of echocardiographic parameters of subpulmonary left ventricular (LV) size and function in patients with a systemic right ventricle (SRV).

Methods And Results: All adults with an SRV who underwent transthoracic echocardiography in 2010-18 at a large tertiary centre were identified. Biventricular size and function were assessed at the most recent examination.

Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of a transmesenteric vein extrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TmEPS) for the treatment of cavernous transformation of the portal vein (CTPV).

Materials And Methods: The clinical data of 20 patients with CTPV who underwent TmEPS between December 2020 and January 2022 ​at Henan Provincial People's Hospital were retrospectively collected. The superior mesenteric vein (SMV) trunk was patent or partially occluded in these patients.

Primary lung adenocarcinoma in transplanted lung in post bilateral lung transplantation.

Key Clinical Message: Primary lung cancer was reported by a bilateral lung transplant patient without any risk factors. Single lung transplantation should be contemplated instead of double lung transplantation as it has been shown to increase the risk of lung cancers.

Abstract: This is a case report of a 37-year-old woman, with no history of smoking, who developed adenocarcinoma in her transplanted lung 17 years post transplantation.
