The corrosive issues are comprehensively caused in oilfield rejection system, in which sulfide is one of (bio-)chemical factors leading to high corrosive rate and blocking problem. Generally, aerobic treatment is a well-established and cost-effective unit for sulfide removal before oilfield wastewater reinjection. However, the residual dissolved oxygen (DO), which causes chemical, biological and electrochemical corrosion to water injection pipeline equipment, is still high after multi-stage filtration of DO removal.

With the improvement of electroplating process and products requirement, refractory organics, heavy metals or even heavy metal nanoparticles (NP) exist simultaneously in electroplating wastewater inevitably, makes electroplating wastewater treatment effluent difficult to meet the discharge standard. In order to improve the organics removal under the exposure of CuO NP, strains (designated as L1-L5) that have both organics degradation and Cu tolerance capacities were isolated and employed in the electroplating wastewater bioaugmentation treatment using a hydrolytic/anoxic/oxic-membrane bioreactor. The Cu adsorption process followed pseudo-second order kinetics and the isotherms fit well to Langmuir isotherm model.

This study investigated the acidogenic and microbiological perspectives in the anaerobic co-fermentation of waste-activated sludge (WAS) mixed with corn stalk (CS) and pig manure (PM). The volatile fatty acids (VFAs) increased dramatically to over 5000 mg COD/L accumulation just within 4-5 days with the feedstock carbon to nitrogen (C/N) ratio regulation of 20/1. The CS and PM addition enhanced the compressibility of fermentation residuals by increasing the particle distribution spread index (DSI).

Excessive use of antibiotics in breeding industry leads to accumulation of antibiotic residuals and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in environment from improperly treated livestock excrements. Four commonly used veterinary antibiotics including chlortetracycline (CTC), sulfamerazine (SMZ), enrofloxacin (ENR) and erythromycin (ERY) were monitored in the swine manure composting. Co-resistance and cross-resistance effects among relative ARGs, correlations between ARGs and bacterial community under multiple antibiotics residual during the composting were investigated in this research.

The relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem stability is poorly understood in microbial communities. Biofilm communities in small bioreactors called microbial electrolysis cells (MEC) contain moderate species numbers and easy tractable functional traits, thus providing an ideal platform for verifying ecological theories in microbial ecosystems. Here, we investigated the resilience of biofilm communities with a gradient of diversity, and explored the relationship between biodiversity and stability in response to a pH shock.

Understanding the abundance change of certain bacterial taxa is quite important for the study of soil microbiology. However, the observed differences of relative abundances by high-throughput techniques may not accurately reflect those of the actual taxon abundances. This study investigated whether soil microbial abundances coupling with microbial quantities can be more informative in describing the microbial population distribution under different locations.

Most studies on the production of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) from waste activated sludge (WAS) digestion have focused on operating conditions, pretreatments and characteristic adjustments. Conditioning by extra carbon sources (ECS), normally added in a solid form, has been reported to be an efficient approach. However, this has caused considerable waste of monomeric sugars in the hydrolysate.

Background: Volatile fatty acids (VFAs) production from waste activated sludge (WAS) digestion is constrained by unbalanced nutrient composition (low carbon-to-nitrogen ratio). Characteristics conditioning by extra carbon sources, normally in the mixture of raw solid, has been reported to be an efficient approach to enhance WAS acidification. However, little attention has been paid to the contributions of other adjustment forms.
