Background: This trial aimed to assess the efficacy, acceptability, and safety of a first-trimester screen-and-prevent strategy for preterm preeclampsia in Asia.

Methods: Between August 1, 2019, and February 28, 2022, this multicenter stepped wedge cluster randomized trial included maternity/diagnostic units from 10 regions in Asia. The trial started with a period where all recruiting centers provided routine antenatal care without study-related intervention.

The Effect of Follitropin Alfa in Controlled Ovarian Stimulation Protocol for In Vitro Fertilization Cycles.

J Reprod Infertil

January 2023

Graduate School of Biology, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia, Depok, Indonesia.

Background: Follitropin alfa (FA) is one of the most widely used exogenous gonadotropins in both agonist and antagonist protocols for controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). However, reports of its effectiveness are limited, particularly in terms of its impact on overall IVF outcomes and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Therefore, in this study, FA competency was investigated by evaluating its effect on IVF outcomes and OHSS, administering agonist and antagonist COS protocols.

Background: Simonart's band is a soft tissue band that connects the cleft gap of the base of the nostril or the margin of the alveolus. While research on the prevalence of Simonart's band in cleft lip and palate cases has been carried out in various countries, research on Simonart's band in Indonesia has yet to be conducted.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of different types of Simonart's band at a cleft center in Indonesia.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to create and test a predictive model that assesses the likelihood of children with COVID-19 developing severe or critical symptoms, using data from five pediatric hospitals in Asia.
  • - Researchers analyzed registry data from 1,147 COVID-positive patients to identify factors like age, comorbidities, and symptoms that increase or decrease the risk of severe illness.
  • - The model showed strong predictive ability, with high accuracy rates in both training and validation tests, indicating it could help estimate risk in hospitalized children, but further validation is needed for clinical application.

Background And Aims: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a severe disease in preterm infants. It is seen more frequently in Low-Middle Income Countries (LMIC) like Indonesia compared to High-Income Countries (HIC). Risk factors for ROP development are -extreme- preterm birth, use of oxygen, neonatal infections, respiratory problems, inadequate nutrition, and blood and exchange transfusions.

There is wide variation in the overall clinical impact of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) across countries worldwide. Changes adopted pertaining to the management of pediatric patients, in particular, the provision of respiratory support during the COVID-19 pandemic is poorly described in Asia. We performed a multicenter survey of 20 Asian pediatric hospitals to determine workflow changes adopted during the pandemic.

Background: Risk factors other than supplemental oxygen might play a role in the development of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). In Indonesia ROP occurs in infants up to 34 weeks and 2000 g. Risk factors for the development of ROP in Indonesian NICUs have not been evaluated.

Objective: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a major cause of blindness in newborn infants, which also occurs in low-income and middle-income countries. Why ROP progresses in some infants while it regresses in others is still presently unknown. Studies suggest that genetic factors might be involved.

Background And Objectives: Persistent diarrhea has been proven to cause pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, due to decreased stimulation to the pancreas caused by prolonged mucosal injury. Pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) given in conjunction to regular treatment is thought to be beneficial in replacing this pancreatic enzyme deficiency, avoiding the need of elemental diet. This study aims to evaluate the benefit of PERT in chil-dren with persistent diarrhea.

Eleven years of retinopathy of prematurity in one neonatal intensive care unit in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Arch Dis Child

June 2018

Department of Pediatrics, Beatrix Children Hospital, Universitair Medisch, Groningen, The Netherlands.

Background: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a well-known complication in preterm infants. Data on the incidence of ROP in Indonesia, in relation to birth weight (BW) and gestational age (GA), are limited.

Objective: To report the incidence of ROP in one of the oldest and largest neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Indonesia.

Retinopathy of prematurity in Indonesia: Incidence and risk factors.

J Neonatal Perinatal Med

October 2017

Department of Pediatrics, Beatrix Children Hospital, University Medical Center Groningen, The Netherlands.

Background: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a vaso-proliferative disease of the eye, which mainly affects preterm newborn infants with an incompletely vascularized retina. The incidence of ROP has increased in industrialized countries due to the increased survival of extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants. ROP is also increasing in developing countries like Indonesia, where it is most likely due to the improved survival of ELBW infants.

Background And Objectives: Persistent diarrhoea, a serious health problem, is closely related to malnutrition. Children with severe malnutrition have a 9-fold risk of death, and children with severe stunting have a 4-fold risk of death. Prolonged mucosal injury from diarrhoea causes reduced secretin and cholecystokinin secretion, which decreases stimulation to the pancreas, and is indicated by faecal elastase-1 levels.

Background: Novel methods for cytokine analysis allow for the simultaneous measurement of 25 cytokines in 50 μL serum or plasma. Data on values of most of these cytokines in non-infected newborn infants are lacking. We analyzed levels of 25 cytokines in the first week of life in non-infected preterm and term infants and related them to gestational age.
