Background: Total mesorectal excision using conventional straight fixed devices may be technically difficult because of the narrow and concave pelvis. Several laparoscopic articulating tools have been introduced as an alternative to robotic systems. The aim of this study was to compare perioperative outcomes between laparoscopic low anterior resection using ArtiSential and robot-assisted surgery for rectal cancer.

Background/aim: We aimed to compare the clinicopathological outcomes in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer after short- or long-course concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) followed by delayed surgery.
Patients And Methods: The records of 94 patients with cT3-4N0-2M0 rectal cancer who received CCRT between 2010 and 2017 were reviewed. Short-course radiotherapy (RT) was delivered with a median total dose of 25 Gy in five fractions (n=27), and long-course RT was delivered with a median total dose of 50.

Background: Anatomic repair of a torn rotator cuff tendon on the greater tuberosity (GT) is an important surgical goal in rotator cuff repair. However, few studies have investigated whether the efforts made to maximize coverage of the GT are associated with the clinical and structural outcomes after rotator cuff repair surgery.
Purpose: To investigate whether the quality of repair at the time of surgery is associated with clinical and structural outcomes after surgery and to identify factors influencing the quality of repair.

Background/aims: () infection highly correlates with erythematous/exudative gastritis, which is one of the endoscopic findings of the Sydney classification system. The present study aimed to evaluate the association between endoscopic severity of erythematous/exudative gastritis and infection.
Methods: We prospectively enrolled asymptomatic adults who were diagnosed with erythematous/exudative gastritis during screening esophagogastroduodenoscopy.

Background And Aims: The long-term outcomes of paediatric-onset inflammatory bowel disease [pIBD] in non-Caucasian populations are unknown. We therefore evaluated and compared the clinical features and long-term outcomes of pIBD with those of adult-onset IBD [aIBD] using a population-based cohort in the Songpa-Kangdong district of Seoul, Korea.
Methods: Clinical characteristics and prognoses were compared between the two groups: pIBD [defined as <18 years of age at diagnosis] and aIBD [18-59 years of age at diagnosis].

Purpose: The objective of this study was to compare the perioperative outcomes between single-incision laparoscopic appendectomy (SILA) and 3-port conventional laparoscopic appendectomy (CLA) in enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol.
Methods: Of 101 laparoscopic appendectomy with ERAS protocol cases for appendicitis from March 2019 to April 2020, 54 patients underwent SILA with multimodal analgesic approach (group 1) while 47 patients received CLA with multimodal analgesic approach (group 2). SILA and CLA were compared with the single institution's ERAS protocol.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the longterm prognosis of Korean CD patients in the well-defined population-based Songpa-Kangdong inflammatory bowel disease cohort.
Methods: Outcomes of disease and their predictors were evaluated for 418 patients diagnosed with CD between 1986 and 2015.

Evidence of the association between anemia and risk of PD (Parkinson's disease) have been accumulating. This study aimed to examine the relationship between anemia and risk of PD in Korean older adults. Korean adults aged 50 years or older who participated in the Korean National Screening Program (n = 12,342,278) between 2009 and 2013 were followed until 2015.

Gastrointestinal neurofibroma usually develops as diffuse gastrointestinal involvement in neurofibromatosis type 1 patients. Only 4 cases of sporadic colonic neurofibroma in a patient without neurofibromatosis type 1 have been reported in the English literature. A 26-year-old female patient underwent colonoscopy, and a 4-cm-sized polypoid mass was identified in the sigmoid colon.

Advances in laparoscopic surgery and therapeutic endoscopy have allowed these minimally destructive procedures to challenge conventional surgery. Because of its theoretic advantages and technical feasibility, laparoendoscopic full-thickness resection is considered to be the most appropriate option for subepithelial tumor removal. Furthermore, combination of laparoscopic and endoscopic approaches for treatment of neoplasia can be important maneuvers for gastric cancer resection without contamination of the peritoneal cavity if the sentinel lymph node concept is established.

Purpose: The purposes of this study were to investigate the distribution of the visceral fat area (VFA) and general obesity and to compare visceral and general obesity as predictors of surgical outcomes of a colorectal cancer resection.
Methods: The prospectively collected data of 102 patients with preoperatively-diagnosed sigmoid colon or rectal cancer who had undergone a curative resection at Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital between April 2011 and September 2012 were reviewed retrospectively. Men with a VFA of >130 cm(2) and women with a VFA of >90 cm(2) were classified as obese (VFA-O, n = 22), and the remaining patients were classified as nonobese (VFA-NO, n = 80).
