Aim: Homecare for neonates has advanced, but combative analysis of contact methods remains unexplored. The aim was to identify predictors of readmission during homecare and to compare home visit, telemedicine or outpatient visit.

Methods: This retrospective study included infants receiving homecare from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2022.

Aim: The aim was to investigate feeding type at discharge; exclusively breastfeeding (EBF), mixed breastfeeding (MBF), and formula milk feeding (FMF), factors associated with feeding type, and changes in weight-for-age z-score (ΔWAZ) in infants admitted to Danish neonatal units.

Methods: Using data from the Danish National Quality Database for Births and the Danish Newborn Quality Database, we included 8639 mother-infant dyads admitted ≥5 days between February 2019 and December 2021. We used logistic regression to investigate associations between maternal and infant factors and feeding type, and descriptive statistics to describe ΔWAZ and feeding type at discharge.

Background: Mother's own milk (MOM) is important as the first nutrition for preterm infants, but mothers often struggle to initiate milk production right after preterm birth. If antenatal breastmilk expression (aBME) does not induce preterm labor when performed before term age, it could promote nutrition with MOM right after preterm birth. In this pilot study, we aimed to investigate whether aBME induces preterm labor among healthy nulliparous women from week 34 of pregnancy, to examine if aBME promotes the availability of MOM right after birth and affects breastfeeding outcomes.

Preclinical data suggest that gestational exposure to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) alter gut innervation, and delays colonic motility. In this study we investigated associations between gestational SSRI exposure and offspring disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI). Using population-based registries, we included all single-birth Danish children born 1997-2015 with follow-up until outcome occurrence, age 15 years, death, emigration, or December 2018.

Aim: To investigate liver biochemistry in infants screened for biliary atresia (BA) at the time of hepatobiliary scintigraphy (HS) and to evaluate the effect of change in threshold for HS.

Methods: Infants born from 2010 to 2021, who underwent HS <6 months postpartum for BA, were included and data sourced from electronic medical records. The change in threshold in 2018 from ≥20 (and/or if conjugated bilirubin exceeds 20% of total bilirubin) to ≥17 μM (regardless of total bilirubin) was evaluated.

Background: Protein intake in infancy influences infant growth, body composition, and possibly metabolic programming later in life. Our objectives were to investigate whether macronutrient content in mother's own milk (MOM) differed between exclusive (EBF) or partial breastfeeding (PBF), including an estimation of protein intake (ePI) during the first 6 months of life. Second, to investigate associations of feeding type and ePI with childhood growth and body composition at 7 years.

Background: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), although rare, are considered one of the most common gastrointestinal and bronchopulmonary pediatric neoplasms. We aimed to determine the incidence, tumor characteristics, management, and outcome of NETs and explore the role of genetic predisposition, focusing on low and intermediate grade tumors.

Methods: Using the Danish National Pathology Registry, we conducted a nationwide retrospective study including all Danish children aged ≤18 years diagnosed with a pathology-proven NET between 1995 and 2020.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore the presence of risk factors, including genetic variants, in preterm and term-born children with respiratory symptoms.
  • A cohort of 63 preterm-born and 86 term-born children was analyzed over six years, revealing that a specific genetic variant increased wheezing risk in term-born children, but not in preterm-born children.
  • Parental smoking was found to be a significant risk factor, particularly among preterm-born children with respiratory symptoms.

Article Synopsis
  • A study analyzed the psychiatric health of patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) using extensive data from Danish hospitals over several decades.
  • It found that individuals with the most common form of CAH (21-hydroxylase deficiency) had significantly higher rates of psychiatric disorders and required psychiatric medications compared to the general population.
  • The results emphasize the importance of monitoring and addressing mental health issues in patients with 21-OHD, particularly due to the increased risks for both males and females.

GALEN ANACARE consensus statement: Potential of omalizumab in food allergy management.

Clin Transl Allergy

November 2024

Division of Allergy and Immunology, Department of Dermatology, Allergy and Venerology, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Berlin, Germany.

Article Synopsis
  • IgE-mediated food allergies are the most common type, causing quick and serious reactions that affect patients' and caregivers' lives.
  • Omalizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that binds to IgE, reducing allergic reactions, and has been approved by the FDA for treating these food allergies.
  • The GALEN ANACARE Consensus Statement supports omalizumab's use based on a systematic review and expert agreement, noting it is currently the only drug that can significantly reduce IgE-mediated food allergic reactions, although more evidence is needed for stronger guideline recommendations.

Background: The age of Danish women giving birth to their first child has risen throughout the last 50 years, and the number of women and men who are having their first child when they are at advanced maternal or paternal age is increasing worldwide. Postponing parenthood is not unique to Denmark, as the same pattern is seen especially in other European and Western countries. The aim of this study was in a social media setting to explore reflections on the timing of motherhood among Danish women of reproductive age who not yet had children.

Background And Aim: Only few studies have examined the socioeconomic consequences of being diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in childhood or youth. Disease severity has been linked to lower earnings, but little attention has been paid to comorbid mental health conditions. The aim is to examine labour market participation (LMP) and income in patients with IBD-onset in childhood or youth and examine how disease severity and mental health conditions affects LMP.

Introduction: Breastfeeding establishment can be challenging due to several factors including women's emotional and physical perception of breastfeeding. This study examines the bodily experiences of healthy women performing antenatal breastmilk expression (aBME) from gestational week 34 until term and whether aBME can support women during breastfeeding establishment.

Methods: A qualitative phenological-hermeneutic approach was applied.

This European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) guideline provides recommendations for the management of IgE-mediated food allergy and was developed using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) approach. Following the confirmation of IgE-mediated food allergy diagnosis, allergen avoidance and dietary advice (with support of a specialised dietitian, if possible) together with the provision of a written treatment plan, education on the recognition of allergic symptoms and prescription of medication including adrenaline using an auto-injector are essential. Patients with significant anxiety and requirement for coping strategies may benefit from support from a clinical psychologist.

Background: Kidney transplantation is the best treatment for end-stage kidney disease but requires immunosuppressive medications, which have significant side effects. Many pediatric recipients experience these side effects, leading to dosage reductions, which potentially increase the risk of alloimmunity. We aimed to describe the alteration in immunosuppressive medication, explore the reasons for the reductions, and assess the potential impact on alloimmunity.
