Introduction: Interleukin 12 receptor beta 1 (IL12Rβ1) deficiency is a primary immunodeficiency resulting mainly in susceptibility to opportunistic infection by non-tuberculous, environmental mycobacteria and severe infection caused by spp. Till now, less than 300 patients with IL12Rβ1 deficiency have been reported. Congenital deafness affects deep layers in primary and secondary auditory cortex.

The current study aimed to follow-up a group of road crash survivors for one year and assesses the impact of injury on their psychological and physical condition. This study analysed the outcome of 267 patients with relapse/refractory acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) who received sequential chemotherapy including fludarabine, cytarabine and amsacrine followed by reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) and allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The transplants in 77 patients were from matched sibling donors (MSDs) and those in 190 patients were from matched unrelated donors. Most patients (94·3%) were given anti-T-cell antibodies.

The activation of p38(MAPK) by Toll-like receptor signalling is essential for the inflammatory response of innate immunity due to its role in post-transcriptional regulation of TNFα and cytokine biosynthesis. p38(MAPK) activation proceeds by the upstream MAP2Ks, MAPK kinase (MKK)3/6 as well as MKK4, which in turn are substrates for MAP3Ks, such as TGFβ-activated protein kinase-1 (TAK1). In contrast, TPL2 has been described as an exclusive MAP3K of MKK1/2-triggering activation of the classical ERKs, ERK1/2.

Higher-order auditory areas in congenital deafness: Top-down interactions and corticocortical decoupling.

The theory of predictive coding assumes that higher-order representations influence lower-order representations by generating predictions about sensory input. In congenital deafness, one identified dysfunction is a reduced activation of deep layers in the auditory cortex. Since these layers play a central role for processing top-down influences, congenital deafness might interfere with the integration of top-down and bottom-up information flow.

The recently published S2k-guideline on (allergen-) specific immunotherapy (AIT) provides an excellent overview of the evidence on allergen preparations available for AIT in Germany based on the published efficacy studies. Publications based on the guideline are currently being used by the German associations of statutory health insurance physicians and German health insurance funds to open a discussion on the reimbursement status of allergen preparations. In our view, calling the reimbursement status of perscribable and tradable AIT preparations into question on the basis of an assessment of the current body of evidence in the guideline is to be rigidly opposed.

Using the double whole-cell patch-clamp technique, we found that the absence of intracellular ATP led to gap junction uncoupling in cochlear-supporting Hensen cells. The uncoupling was observed as a progressive reduction of the gap junctional electrical conductance from a starting value of approximately 40 nS to less than 0.04 nS within 10-20 min.

Post-transcriptional regulation is an essential determinant of gene expression programs in physiological and pathological conditions. HuR is a RNA-binding protein that orchestrates the stabilization and translation of mRNAs, critical in inflammation and tumor progression, including tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF). We identified the low molecular weight compound 15,16-dihydrotanshinone-I (DHTS), well known in traditional Chinese medicine practice, through a validated high throughput screening on a set of anti-inflammatory agents for its ability to prevent HuR:RNA complex formation.

Background: Beside the skin prick test, the intracutaneous test represents the most important skin test method for detecting type-1 allergies. With the incorporation of European directives into national law, test allergens used for allergy diagnosis are deemed medicinal products within the meaning of the German Medicinal Products Act (Arzneimittelgesetz) and therefore require marketing authorisation for distribution in Germany. The high costs of acquiring and maintaining these authorisations have lead to no new finished intracutaneous test products being authorized in Germany for more than 20 years.
