Three-dimensional (3D) printed surgical models provide an excellent surgical training option to closely mimic real operations to teach medical students who currently rely largely on visual learning aided with simple suturing pads. There is an unmet need to create simple to complex surgical training programs suitable for medical students. A prospective cohort study was conducted on a group of 16 6th year students.

Objective: This retrospective study aimed to explore the association and clinical value of sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score on the predictors of adverse events in patients with unruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA).
Methods: A total of 322 patients from Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV database were enrolled. Logistic regression was conducted to explore the association between SOFA and primary outcome (need for surgery, NFS).

This retrospective cohort study aimed to evaluate the association between pre-existing heart failure and both mortality and the recurrence of sepsis. A total of 16,092 sepsis patients without a history of heart failure and 841 sepsis patients with pre-existing heart failure were identified from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care version IV (MIMIC-IV ) database. All patients were adults admitted to intensive care units, and no specific interventions were applied.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by memory impairment and cognitive decline, ultimately culminating in dementia. This study aims to evaluate cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) and functional connectivity (FC) in patients with AD and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI), bypassing the requirement for hypercapnia. The study cohort comprised 53 AD patients, 38 MCI patients, and 39 normal control (NC) subjects.

Background: Whether it is effective and safe to extend the time window of intravenous thrombolysis up to 24 hours after the last known well is unknown. We aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of tenecteplase in Chinese patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large/medium vessel occlusion within an extended time window.
Methods: Patients with ischemic stroke presenting 4.

Disulfidptosis is a newly discovered type of regulated cell death triggered by disulfide bond accumulation and NADPH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate) depletion due to glucose deprivation. However, the regulatory mechanisms involving additional cellular circuits remain unclear. Excessive disulfide bond accumulation can impair endoplasmic reticulum (ER) homeostasis and activate the ER stress response.

Diabetes nephropathy (DN) is a prevalent and severe microvascular diabetic complication. Despite the recent developments in germacrone-based therapies for DN, the underlying mechanisms of germacrone in DN remain poorly understood. This study used comprehensive bioinformatics analysis to identify critical microRNAs (miRNAs) and the potential underlying pathways related to germacrone activities.

Approximately 90% of glioblastoma recurrences occur in the peritumoral brain zone (PBZ), while the spatial heterogeneity of the PBZ is not well studied. In this study, two PBZ tissues and one tumor tissue sample are obtained from each patient via preoperative imaging. We assess the microenvironment and the characteristics of infiltrating immune/tumor cells using various techniques.

Diabetic nephropathy is an important complication of diabetic microvascular injury, and it is also an important cause of end-stage renal disease. Its high prevalence and disability rate significantly impacts patients' quality of life while imposing substantial social and economic burdens. Gut microbiota affects host metabolism, multiple organ functions, and regulates host health throughout the life cycle.

MicroRNA-222 (miR-222) plays a crucial role in neurodegeneration and is up-regulated in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients. Andrographolide (Andro) has been reported to have anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects, showing potential for treating AD. The relationship between Andro's anti-AD mechanism and the regulation of miR-222 was discussed in this study.

Dysregulated activation of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway is crucial in the development of cancer, and disrupting it could potentially lead to cancer suppression, making it a viable strategy for cancer treatment. Here, as a consecutive work of our team, we described the identification and optimization of PI3K/mTOR inhibitors based on triazine scaffold, which exhibited potent PI3K/mTOR inhibitor activity. The systematically structure-activity relationship (SAR) results demonstrated that compound 5nh displayed high efficacy against PI3Kα and mTOR, with the IC values of 0.

Despite the growing adoption of laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH) for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), there is no scoring system available designed to evaluate its surgical complexity. This paper aims to introduce a novel difficulty scoring system (DSS), designated as the Wei-DSS, exclusively tailored to assess the surgical difficulty of pure LH for ICC. We retrospectively collected clinical data from ICC patients who underwent pure LH at our institution, spanning from November 2018 to May 2024.

Hospital-acquired infection (HAI) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) represent major challenges in healthcare system. Despite numerous studies have assessed environmental and patient samples, very few studies have explored the microbiome and resistome profiles of medical staff including nursing workers. This cross-sectional study was performed in a tertiary hospital in China and involved 25 nurses (NSs), 25 nursing workers (NWs), and 55 non-medical control (NC).

This study aims to develop and validate different radiomics models based on thoracic and upper lumbar spine in chest low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) to predict low bone mineral density (BMD) using quantitative computed tomography (QCT) as standard of reference. A total of 905 participants underwent chest LDCT and paired QCT BMD examination were retrospectively included from August 2018 and June 2019. The patients with low BMD (n = 388) and the normal (n = 517) were randomly divided into a training set (n = 622) and a validation set (n = 283).

Thyroid nodules are a common endocrine condition with an increasing incidence over the decades. Data-independent acquisition has been widely utilized in discovery proteomics to identify disease biomarkers and therapeutic targets. To analyze the thyroid disease-related proteome in a high-throughput, reproducible and reliable manner, we introduce thyroid-specific peptide spectral libraries.

Background: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is an inherited disorder mainly marked by increased low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) concentrations and a heightened risk of early-onset arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). This study seeks to characterize the genetic spectrum and genotype‒phenotype correlations of FH in Chinese pediatric individuals.
Methods: Data were gathered from individuals diagnosed with FH either clinically or genetically at multiple hospitals across mainland China from January 2016 to June 2024.

Complex liver cancer is often difficult to expose or dissect, and the surgery is often challenging. 3D-printed models may realistically present 3D anatomical structure, which has certain value in planning and training of liver surgery. However, the existing 3D-printed models are all monolithic models, which are difficult to reuse and limited in clinical application.

The detection and assessment of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular calcification can inform risk stratification and therapies to reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In this review, we provide an overview of current and emerging imaging techniques for assessing atherosclerosis and cardiovascular calcification in animal models. Traditional imaging modalities, such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), offer non-invasive approaches of visualizing atherosclerotic calcification in vivo; integration of these techniques with positron emission tomography (PET) imaging adds molecular imaging capabilities, such as detection of metabolically active microcalcifications with F-sodium fluoride.
