Objective: There is very limited of evidence linking fibrinogen and bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women. Therefore, this study intended to examine the relationship between fibrinogen and total BMD in postmenopausal women.

Methods: This cross-sectional analysis included 2043 postmenopausal women aged 50 years and older from the 1999 to 2002 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

This research investigated the effectiveness of percutaneous Kirschner wire fixation in children with Jacob II and III lateral humeral condyle fractures. 28 children with Jacob II and III lateral humeral condyle fractures were treated with percutaneous Kirschner wire fixation under ultrasound localization, followed by cast immobilization for 4-5 weeks at our institution from January 2018 to April 2022. X-rays were evaluated on the first postoperative day to assess fracture reduction and Kirschner wire fixation.

Article Synopsis
  • Drinking water contaminated with cadmium (Cd2) is a major way that this toxic metal enters the body, harming skin and hair.
  • A study using C57BL/6 mice found that different doses of cadmium chloride led to noticeable changes in skin metabolites, with higher doses causing more severe impacts.
  • Results demonstrated that cadmium exposure accelerates skin metabolic disorders and aging, while also damaging hair follicle stem cells, negatively affecting hair regeneration.

Nomogram to predict malignancy in branch duct type intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms.

Medicine (Baltimore)

September 2022

Department of Radiology, Affiliated Xiaoshan Hospital, Hangzhou Normal University, Hangzhou Zhenjiang, China.

Prediction of malignancy in branch duct (BD)-type intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (BD-IPMNs) is difficult. In this retrospective study, we showed the performance of imaging biomarker and biochemical biomarker in identifying the malignant BD-IPMNs. A total of 97 patients with pathological proved BD-IPMNs were included in this study.

Objective: The aims of this study were to screen the gene mutations that are able to predict the risk of cigarette smoking-related lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and to evaluate its prognostic significance.

Methods: Clinical data and genetic information were retrieved from the TCGA database, and the patients with LUAD were divided into three groups including never smoking, light smoking, and heavy smoking according to cigarette smoking dose. Differentially mutated genes (DMGs) of each group were analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study surveyed 484 nursing homes in China to assess the availability of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) services, ultimately focusing on 443 of them, where 48.5% offered TCM care.
  • Key factors influencing the provision of TCM included nursing home leadership's background in TCM and Western medicine, operational scale (monthly fees over 5,000 CNY and having at least 500 beds), and better understanding of relevant policies.
  • The most common TCM services provided were massage, moxibustion, cupping, plaster therapy, decocting, and acupuncture, while barriers to TCM provision included lack of trained professionals, insufficient funding, and inadequate policy support.

Regulation of circADAMTS6-miR-324-5p-PIK3R3 ceRNA pathway may be a novel mechanism of IL-1β-induced osteoarthritic chondrocytes.

J Bone Miner Metab

May 2022

Department of Orthopedics, The First People's Hospital of Hangzhou, No.261, Huansha Road, Shangcheng District, Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou, 310000, China.

Introduction: A disintegrin and metallopeptidase with thrombospondin type 1 motif 6 (ADAMTS6)-derived circular RNA (circADAMTS6; hsa_circ_0008667) is a novel regulator in interleukin (IL)-1β-induced apoptosis of human chondrocytes (HCs). Here, we planned to probe into its role and mechanism underlying HCs injury in osteoarthritis.

Materials And Methods: Real time-quantitative PCR and immunoblotting estimated the abundance of RNA and protein, respectively.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an autoimmune disease with unknown aetiology. To unravel the mechanisms mediating AS pathogenesis, we profiled peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from AS patients and healthy subjects using 10X single-cell RNA sequencing. The frequencies of immune cell subsets were evaluated by flow cytometry.

Charcot arthropathy is a type of destructive osteoarthropathy characterized by neurotrophic and sensory disorders. The condition is relatively rare, with an insidious onset, and it is easily misdiagnosed. Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can cause excessive joint wear, continuous inflammatory stimulation of the prosthesis, postoperative residual cavity, prosthesis loosening and subsidence, peripheral fracture, infection, and other complications.

Background: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a progressive rheumatic disease and studies reveal that the immune system is critical for the pathogenesis of AS. In the present study, various bioinformatics analysis methods were comprehensively applied, designed to identify potential key genes and inflammation states of AS.

Methods: The transcriptome profiles of GSE25101 and GSE73754 obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database were merged for subsequent analyses.
