Cushing's syndrome (CS) is a rare disease with multiple somatic signs and a high prevalence of co-occurring depression. However, the characteristics of depression secondary to CS and the differences from major depression have not been described in detail. In this case, we report a 17-year-old girl with treatment-resistant depression with a series of atypical features and acute psychotic episodes, which is a rare condition secondary to CS.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is one of the most severe sequelae of trauma. But a nationally representative epidemiological data for PTSD and trauma events (TEs) was unavailable in China. This article firstly demonstrated detailed epidemiological information on PTSD, TEs, and related comorbidities in the national-wide community-based mental health survey in China.

Background: There is an urgent need to identify differentiating and disease-monitoring biomarkers of schizophrenia, bipolar disorders (BD), and major depressive disorders (MDD) to improve treatment and management.
Methods: We recruited 54 first-episode schizophrenia (FES) patients, 52 BD patients, 35 MDD patients, and 54 healthy controls from inpatient and outpatient clinics. -Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (-MSH), -endorphin, neurotensin, orexin-A, oxytocin, and substance P were investigated using quantitative multiplex assay method.

Background: Physical restraint is widely used in mental health services to address safety concerns. However, studies have shown that improper physical restraint can result in adverse effects. Nurses are the main practitioners of physical restraint and play a crucial role in physical restraint decisions and nursing.

The pore morphology design of bioceramic scaffolds plays a substantial role in the induction of bone regeneration. Specifically, the effects of different scaffold pore geometry designs on angiogenesis and new bone regeneration remain unclear. Therefore, we fabricated Mg/Sr co-doped wollastonite bioceramic (MS-CSi) scaffolds with three different pore geometries (gyroid, cylindrical, and cubic) and compared their effects on osteogenesis and angiogenesis and .

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate resting-state interhemispheric functional connectivity in patients with schizophrenia and refractory auditory verbal hallucinations (RAVHs) by using voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity (VMHC).
Methods: Thirty-four patients with schizophrenia and RAVHs (RAVH group), 23 patients with schizophrenia but no auditory verbal hallucinations (non-AVH group), and 28 matched healthy volunteers (healthy control group) were recruited in China. VMHC analyses were used to identify brain areas with significant differences in functional connectivity among the three groups, and correlations between symptom scores and neurological measures were examined.

Brain-machine interfaces (BMI) have developed rapidly in recent years, but still face critical issues such as accuracy and stability. Ideally, a BMI system would be an implantable neuroprosthesis that would be tightly connected and integrated into the brain. However, the heterogeneity of brains and machines hinders deep fusion between the two.

Background: This study explored the feasibility of using EEG gamma-band (30-49 Hz) power as an index of cue-elicited craving in METH-dependent individuals.
Methods: Twenty-nine participants dependent on methamphetamine (METH) and 30 healthy participants were instructed to experience a METH-related virtual reality (VR) social environment.
Results: Individuals with METH dependence showed significantly stronger self-reported craving and higher gamma power in a VR environment than healthy individuals.

Schizophrenia (SCZ) is a severe psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorder. The pathological process of SCZ starts early during development, way before the first onset of psychotic symptoms. DNA methylation plays an important role in regulating gene expression and dysregulated DNA methylation is involved in the pathogenesis of various diseases.

Objective: Atypical antipsychotics (APs) modify the gut microbiome, and weight gain in response to AP could be mediated by the gut microbiome. Thus, the present study aimed to explore the changes in the gut bacterial microbiome in AP-exposed children with obesity.
Methods: To rule out the confounder of AP indication, the gut bacterial microbiome was compared between healthy controls (Con) and AP-exposed individuals with overweight (APO) or normal weight (APN).

Background: The incidence of adolescent depressive disorder is globally skyrocketing in recent decades, albeit the causes and the decision deficits depression incurs has yet to be well-examined. With an instrumental learning task, the aim of the current study is to investigate the extent to which learning behavior deviates from that observed in healthy adolescent controls and track the underlying mechanistic channel for such a deviation.
Methods: We recruited a group of adolescents with major depression and age-matched healthy control subjects to carry out the learning task with either gain or loss outcome and applied a reinforcement learning model that dissociates valence (positive .

Acute administration of MK-801 (dizocilpine), an N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antagonist, can establish animal models of psychiatric disorders. However, the roles of microglia and inflammation-related genes in these animal models of psychiatric disorders remain unknown. Here, we found rapid elimination of microglia in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and hippocampus (HPC) of mice following administration of the dual colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor (CSF1R)/c-Kit kinase inhibitor PLX3397 (pexidartinib) in drinking water.

Background: To identify risk genes whose expression are regulated by the reported risk variants and to explore the potential regulatory mechanism in schizophrenia (SCZ).
Methods: We systematically integrated three independent brain expression quantitative traits (eQTLs) (CommonMind, GTEx, and BrainSeq Phase 2, a total of 1039 individuals) and GWAS data (56 418 cases and 78 818 controls), with the use of transcriptome-wide association study (TWAS). Diffusion magnetic resonance imaging was utilized to quantify the integrity of white matter bundles and determine whether polygenic risk of novel genes linked to brain structure was present in patients with first-episode antipsychotic SCZ.

Understanding the biological basis of cognitive differences between individuals is the goal in human intelligence research. The surface area of the cortex is considered to be a key determinant of human intelligence. Adolescence is a period of development characterized by physiological, emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial changes, which is related to the recombination and optimization of the cerebral cortex, and cognitive ability changes significantly in children and adolescents.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a primary malignant tumor responsible for approximately 90% of all liver cancers in humans, making it one of the leading public health problems worldwide. The gut microbiota is a complex microbial ecosystem that can influence tumor formation, metastasis, and resistance to treatment. Therefore, understanding the potential mechanisms of gut microbiota pathogenesis is critical for the prevention and treatment of HCC.

We aimed to investigate the differential diagnosis of depressive episodes in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD) using peripheral blood cytokine expression levels. The levels of interleukin (IL)-2, IL-6, IL-10, IL-17, IL4, and IL-12; interferon (IFN)-γ; and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α were measured in patients with MDD and BD presenting acute episodes in an inpatient psychiatric setting. The expression levels of IL-6, IL-10, IL-17, and IFN-γ in the MDD and BD groups were higher than those in the control group (P < .

Objective: Schizophrenia can be divided into deficient schizophrenia (DS) and non-deficient schizophrenia (NDS) according to the presence of primary and persistent negative symptoms. So far, there are few studies that have explored the differences in functional connectivity (FC) between the different subtypes based on the region of interest (ROI) from GMV (Gray matter volume), especially since the characteristics of brain networks are still unknown. This study aimed to investigate the alterations of functional connectivity between DS and NDS based on the ROI obtained by machine learning algorithms and differential GMV.
