Metal-free photocatalysts derived from earth-abundant elements have drawn significant attention owing to their ample supply for potential large-scale applications. However, it is still challenging to achieve highly efficient photocatalytic performance owing to their sluggish charge separation and lack of active catalytic sites. Herein, we designed and constructed a series of covalently bonded organic semiconductors to enhance water splitting and phenol degradation.

Nanoparticles show promising antimicrobial activities; however, their actions are hindered primarily by the bacterial hydrophilic-hydrophobic barrier. To overcome this, we developed a method of electrochemically anchoring sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) coatings onto silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), resulting in improved antimicrobial potency.

A large number of oceanic metagenomic data and environmental metadata have been published. However, most studies focused on limited ecosystems using different analysis tools, making it challenging to integrate these data into robust results and comprehensive global understanding of marine microbiome. Here, we constructed a systematic and quantitative analysis platform, the Microbiome Atlas/Sino-Hydrosphere for Ocean Ecosystem (MASH-Ocean: https://www.

The realization of a controllable transparent conducting system with selective light transparency is crucial for exploring many of the most intriguing effects in top-illuminated optoelectronic devices. However, the performance is limited by insufficient electrical conductivity, low work function, and vulnerable interface of traditional transparent conducting materials, such as tin-doped indium oxide. Here, it is reported that two-dimensional (2D) titanium carbide (Ti C T ) MXene film acts as an efficient transparent conducting electrode for the lead sulfide (PbS) colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) photodiode with controllable near infrared transmittance.

Converting extensive sugars into value-added 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) has been considered to be a promising approach to developing sustainable substitutes for chemicals from fossil resources. The complicated conversion processes involved multiple cascade reactions and intermediates, which made the design of efficient multifunction catalysts challenging. Herein, we developed a catalyst by introducing phosphotungstic acid (PW) and Co sites into the UiO-66, which achieved a one-pot cascade conversion of fructose-to-FDCA with high conversion (>99 %) and yield (94.

Herein, a dual-functional nanoprobe, cobalt protoporphyrin-induced nano-self-assembly (CPSP), has been developed through a cobalt protoporphyrin IX (CoPP) aggregation-induced self-assembly strategy, which combines CoPP and superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPION) via a simple solvent evaporation-driven method. Without any additional carrier materials, the obtained CPSP is featured with good biocompatibility and high proportions of active ingredients.

Certain poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) exhibit significant bioaccumulation/biomagnification behaviors in ecosystems. PFASs, such as perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorohexanesulfonic acid (PFHxS) and related precursors, have elicited attention from both public and national regulatory agencies, which has resulted in worldwide restrictions on their production and use. Apex predators occupy the top trophic positions in ecosystems and are most affected by the biomagnification behavior of PFASs.

Air pollution in megacities represents one of the greatest environmental challenges. Our observed results show that the dramatic NO decrease (77%) led to significant O increases (a factor of 2) during the COVID-19 lockdown in megacity Hangzhou, China. Model simulations further demonstrate large increases of daytime OH and HO radicals and nighttime NO radical, which can promote the gas-phase reaction and nocturnal multiphase chemistry.

Assembling nanomaterials into hybrid structures provides a promising and flexible route to reach ultrahigh responsivity by introducing a trap-assisted gain () mechanism. However, the high-gain photodetectors benefitting from long carrier lifetime often possess slow response time () due to the inherent - tradeoff. Here, a light-driven junction field-effect transistor (LJFET), consisting of an n-type ZnO belt as the channel material and a p-type WSe nanosheet as a photoactive gate material, to break the - tradeoff through decoupling the gain from carrier lifetime is reported.
