Microcystin-LRs (MC-LR) produced by harmful cyanobacterial blooms (HCBs) pose significant hepatotoxic risks to both the environment and public health. Despite the identification and characterization of a limited number of MC-LR degrading bacteria, the challenge of safely removing MC-LRs from freshwater systems without disrupting aquatic ecosystems remains substantial. This study focused on the isolation of lactic acid bacteria from Bapshikhe, a traditional Korean fermented food, and investigated the mechanisms underlying the degradation of MC-LRs by these bacteria.

With the growing popularity of consumer-grade electroencephalogram (EEG) devices for health, entertainment, and cognitive research, assessing their signal quality is essential. In this study, we evaluated four consumer-grade wireless and dry-electrode EEG systems widely used for brain-computer interface (BCI) research and applications, comparing them with a research-grade system. We designed an EEG phantom method that reproduced µV-level amplitude EEG signals and evaluated the five devices based on their spectral responses, temporal patterns of event-related potential (ERP), and spectral patterns of resting-state EEG.

Exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells have shown promise in treating metabolic disorders, yet their specific mechanisms remain largely unclear. This study investigates the protective effects of exosomes from human umbilical cord Wharton's jelly mesenchymal stem cells (hWJMSCs) against adiposity and insulin resistance in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mice. HFD-fed mice treated with hWJMSC-derived exosomes demonstrated improved gut barrier integrity, which restored immune balance in the liver and adipose tissues by reducing macrophage infiltration and pro-inflammatory cytokine expression.

Skeletal muscle possesses remarkable regenerative capabilities, fully recovering within a month following severe acute damage. This study investigates the mechanical and piezoresistive sensing properties of recycled carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer composites (rCFRPs) for self-sensing applications, which were prepared from recycled carbon fibers (rCFs) with fiber lengths of 6, 12, 18, and 24 mm using a vacuum infusion method. Increasing evidence is present to enable pain measurement by using frontal channel EEG-based signals with spectral analysis and phase-amplitude coupling. To identify frontal channel EEG-based biomarkers for quantifying pain severity, we investigated band-power features to more complex features and employed various machine learning algorithms to assess the viability of these features. We utilized a public EEG dataset obtained from 36 patients with chronic pain during an eyes-open resting state and performed correlation analysis between clinically labelled pain scores and EEG features from Fp1 and Fp2 channels (EEG band-powers, phase-amplitude couplings (PAC), and its asymmetry features).

Photobiomodulation (PBM) has widely been used to effectively treat complications associated with cancer treatment, including oral mucositis, radiation dermatitis, and surgical wounds.
