Evaluation of the effect of vascularized fibula graft harvesting on coronal plane alignment and functional outcomes of the lower limb.

Recent studies on fibular osteotomy for varus gonarthrosis and possible subsequent biomechanical changes have attracted increasing attention to the topic. Existing studies have focused mainly on proximal fibular osteotomy with short follow-up periods. The aim of this study was to investigate changes in the alignment of the coronal plane of the ankle and knee joints in patients who underwent vascularized fibula graft harvest (VFGH).

The effect of surgical factors on recurrence of tendon sheath giant cell tumours.

In this retrospective study, we evaluated the impact of tumour-related and surgical factors on the recurrence of giant cell tumours of tendon sheath. A total of 95 patients were treated at our institution between February 2012 and March 2021. We identified the factors most likely to be associated with recurrence from evaluation of classification, neurovascular invasion, bone erosion and joint invasion.

Mid-Term Results of the First Dorsal Metacarpal Artery Flap for Thumb Defects.

The thumb plays an important role in the function of the hand. Sensate reconstruction of the pulp is important in restoring function to the thumb. The aim of this study is to present outcomes of a sensate islanded first dorsal metacarpal artery (FDMA) flap used for the reconstruction of skin defects of the thumb.

Comparison of Subungual Glomus Tumours in Terms of Nail Aesthetics and Recurrence According to Size and Location in the Germinal or Sterile Matrix.

Purpose: The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the effect of subungual glomus tumour size and localization in the germinal or sterile matrix on tumour recurrence and aesthetic outcomes.

Patients And Methods: From 35 patients who underwent surgery for a subungual glomus tumour between February 2013 and February 2020, 26 patients - 17 women and 9 men - with 27 subungual glomus tumours fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The average age was 37.

Prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 amongst ophthalmologists throughout the first and second waves of the pandemic.

The study aims to investigate the prevalence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection among ophthalmology unit staff throughout the first and second waves of the outbreak, in order to verify the effectiveness of the measures adopted in containing the contagion.A retrospective observational study was conducted involving staff members, who received a naso/oropharyngeal swab when complaining of SARS-CoV-2 symptoms and once a month as a screening measure. They were tested for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies as a screening measure during the first and the second wave.

Reconstruction of proximal pole scaphoid non-union with avascular necrosis using proximal hamate: A four-case series.

Union of proximal pole scaphoid fracture is challenging because the vascular supply is limited. The avascular necrosis accompanying non-union and progressive fragmentation make surgical reconstruction difficult. The present study aimed to report short-term results of reconstruction with proximal hamate in proximal pole scaphoid non-union with avascular necrosis.

Use of Corrective Ulnar Osteotomy and Radial Head Relocation Into Preserved Annular Ligament in the Treatment of Radiocapitellar Instability Secondary to Pediatric Chronic Monteggia Fracture-Dislocation.

Purpose: Opening-wedge osteotomy of the ulna restores normal ulnar length and corrects the angulation of the ulna in patients with chronic Monteggia fracture-dislocations. In addition, this eases the reduction of the radial head. Morbidity caused by annular ligament reconstruction surgery can be prevented by preserving the intact annular ligament.

The effect of wide-awake anesthesia, intravenous regional anesthesia, and infraclavicular brachial plexus block on cost and clinical scores of patients undergoing hand surgery.

The aim of our study was to compare the clinical results and costs of wide-awake local anesthesia no tourniquet (WALANT), intravenous regional anesthesia (IVRA), and infraclavicular brachial plexus block (IC-BPB). The patients were divided into WALANT, IVRA, IC-BPB groups, each with 50 patients. Demographic information, induction time, use of sedation, number of patients who were converted to general anesthesia, time in postanesthesia care unit (PACU), amount of bleeding during surgery, presence of tourniquet pain, hand motor function during surgery, time to onset of postanesthesia pain, discharge time, complications, and anesthesia costs were compared.

Technical trick in suture-button suspensionplasty for the treatment of thumb carpometacarpal arthritis.

Suture-button suspensionplasty has been popularized in the treatment of thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) arthritis in recent years. The surgical technique of this method was well defined previously. The most challenging and important part of this technique is the tensioning of the suture-button system to preserve first metacarpal height after trapeziectomy.

Outcome of carpal tunnel release in patients with normal nerve conduction studies.

Background: We evaluated outcome after carpal tunnel release (CTR) in patients with clinically diagnosed carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) but normal results in nerve conduction studies (NCS), and compared these results with those from a prospective group of patients with NCS-verified CTS.

Methods: Over a 5-year period, we prospectively included 103 patients with clinical CTS. NCS were done at inclusion, with surgeon and patient being kept blind regarding the result.

Short-term safety, function, and quality of life in patients treated with Univers Revers prosthesis: a multicenter 2-year follow-up case series.

Background: The use of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) has dramatically increased in recent years with the advent of new prosthesis designs regularly entering the market. We define the rate of local complications during the first 2 years after RTSA with the Univers Revers prosthesis and describe the changes in radiologic outcomes, as well as function, pain, satisfaction, and quality of life.

Methods: This multicenter, prospective case series included rotator cuff tear arthropathy patients who underwent RTSA with the Univers Revers.

COVID-19: Initial experience of an international group of hand surgeons.

The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected medical treatment protocols throughout the world. While the pandemic does not affect hand surgeons at first glance, they have a role to play. The purpose of this study was to describe the different measures that have been put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic by hand surgeons throughout the world.

Treatment of scaphoid nonunion with 1,2 intercompartmental supraretinacular artery vascularized graft and compression screw fixation.

Purpose: Aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinical, functional, and radiological outcomes of 1,2-intercompartmental supraretinacular artery (1.2-ICSRA) vascularized graft technique together with compression screw fixation for the management of scaphoid nonunions.

Methods: A retrospective study was designed to evaluate the medical records of the 21 patients treated with 1,2-ICSRA vascularized graft for established scaphoid nonunion of the waist or proximal pole between 2015 and 2018.

Reticular Perineurioma of the Hand: Diagnosis and Treatment of a Rare Case of Hand Mass.

Reticular perineurioma is a rare and recently delineated morphologic variant of benign perineurioma of skin and soft tissues. Because of its nonspecific gross appearance, varying histologic patterns, and potential range of cellularity, perineurioma of the hand is likely to be confused with more commonly encountered tumor or tumor-like conditions such as schwannoma, neurofibroma, fibromyxoid tumors, and giant tumor of tendon sheath. We report the case of a 20-year-old woman who presented with a slowly growing mass of the hand, which was eventually identified as a reticular perineurioma.

Blisters associated with elective wrist surgery.

Blistering of the skin has been reported after high energy trauma or arthroplasties of large joints. It is rare in wrist trauma and seldom reported following elective wrist surgery. We present three cases of skin blistering after elective wrist surgery.

Plutonium, Sr and Am in human bones from southern and northeastern parts of Poland.

The paper presents the results of our study on Pu, Pu, Pu, Am and Sr concentration in human bones carried out on a set of 88 individual samples of central Europe origin. Bone tissue samples were retrieved under surgery while introducing hip joint implants. The conducted surgeries tend to cover either southern or northeastern parts of Poland.

Use of the tendon of the palmaris longus muscle in surgical procedures: study on cadavers.

Objective: Demonstrate that the tendon of palmar long can be estimated in relation to its length and width before using it as a graft in surgical procedure.

Methods: There were examined 60 forearms of 30 corpses of black ethnicity; measure the length and width of the tendon of the palmaris longus muscle and compared the length of the forearm.

Results: There are notes their absence unilateral right in two female corpses.

A severe infection following endoscopic carpal tunnel release.

A 59-year-old patient underwent endoscopic carpal tunnel release by Chow's two-portal technique. He developed a pyogenic tenosynovitis and an infection within the ulnar and radial bursae, an abscess in the middle palmar, thenar and Parona's space, and a pyogenic wrist arthritis. Surgical treatment included a wide exposure of the infected region, débridement, irrigation, application of a resorbable collagen sponge containing gentamicin, insertion of two drains and primary wound closure.

Long-term follow-up of trapeziometacarpal arthroplasty with coexisting scaphotrapezial disease.

Visualization of the scaphotrapezial joint during basal joint arthroplasty has been recommended to establish the stage of degeneration. This study attempts to clarify that recommendation and evaluate whether moderate wear of the joint precludes a good result of trapeziometacarpal hemiarthroplasty. To assess the need for inspection of the scaphotrapezial joint, x-ray films, tomograms, and operative findings in 23 cases of basal joint arthroplasty were reviewed.
