Roxadustat-Induced Central Hypothyroidism Masked by Uremia at the Initiation of Hemodialysis: A Case Report.

Hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor (HIF-PHI) is a novel class of orally administered medications for renal anemia in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Roxadustat, a HIF-PHI, has a structure similar to that of triiodothyronine and may work as an agonist for thyroid hormone receptor-beta in the pituitary gland and/or hypothalamus. Therefore, roxadustat may cause central hypothyroidism due to suppressing thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) release in the pituitary gland and/or thyrotropin-releasing hormone release in the hypothalamus.

Screening key host immune-related genetic factors in the porcine alveolar macrophages (PAMs) is critical to improve the anti-virial ability in pigs.

An empirical study of exploring the predictors of university teachers' job satisfaction in Bangladesh: A structural equation modeling approach.

This study aims to investigate the factors influencing job satisfaction among university teachers, considering various complex constructs such as salary and financial benefits, career growth and opportunities, relationships with colleagues, recognition, working environment, and leadership. Utilizing a quantitative cross-sectional research design, the present study was conducted in Bangladesh between August and December 2022. Encompassing 7 public universities and 12 private universities, the research purposively sampled 95 participants, adhering to a systematic and comprehensive approach to data collection.

Median nerve entrapment neuropathy: a review on the pronator syndrome.

Pronator syndrome is a compression neuropathy of the median nerve within the anatomical structures of the elbow and forearm. It presents with neuropathic pain, numbness, and weakness of the forearm and hand, which are often exacerbated by repetitive pronation-supination movements. Patient presentation may mimic the signs and symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Construction and Band Gap-Regulation of Ordered Macro-Microporous Single Crystals of an Amine-Linked Covalent Organic Framework.

Heterogeneity engineering provides an effective route to manipulate the chemical and physical properties of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) but is still under development for their single-crystal form. Here, we report the strategy based on a combination of the template-assisted modulated synthesis with a one-pot crystallization-reduction method to directly construct ordered macro-microporous single crystals of an amine-linked three-dimensional (3D) COF (OM-COF-300-SR). In this strategy, the colloidal crystal-templating synthesis not only assists the formation of ordered macropores but also greatly facilitates the in situ conversion of linkages (from imine to amine) in the COF-300 single crystals.

Assessing the Return of Function After Various Approaches to Stable Fixation of Metacarpal Fractures.

Background: Multiple approaches exist for operative fixation of metacarpal fractures; with common treatments including lag screw fixation or open-reduction internal fixation (ORIF) with plates and screws. Recently, the adaptation of intramedullary screw (IMS) placement has allowed for an essentially closed approach with stable fixation and theoretically improved outcomes. Thus, we sought to compare such approaches to ultimately determine the superior method for achieving the goal of return to normal function.

One area of technological advancement has been the shift from stainless steel hand tools to nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) rotary tools. This paper aims to perform an in vitro comparative study to evaluate the efficacy of five endodontic manual and rotary instruments such as Kerr files, Orodeka Plex V, ProTaper Flydent NiTi super files, and ProTaper Flydent NiTi super files in combination with an ultrasonic endodontic E3D Diamantata EMS scaler used for root canal shaping. The following aspects were highlighted: effective removal of smear layer (SL) from the dentinal tubules in the coronal 1/3, middle 1/3, and apical 1/3 of the root canal, appearance of cracks in the dentinal walls by SEM analysis, and highlighting of dentin mineral content and remnant debris by EDX analysis.
