Department of Animal Science and Biotechnology, Kyungpook National University, Sangju, 37224, Republic of Korea; Research Institute for Innovative Animal Science, Kyungpook National University, Sangju, 37224, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Spermatozoa must undergo a complex maturation process within the female genital tract known as capacitation. This process entails the phosphorylation or dephosphorylation of various proteins, and multiple signaling pathways are recognized to play a role. The present study aims to identify alterations in the expression of proteins related to the phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) signaling pathway and assess sperm functions during capacitation.

December 2024

Department of Energy Systems Research, Ajou University, Suwon, 16499, Republic of Korea; Department of Environmental and Safety Engineering, Ajou University, Suwon, 16499, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

This study investigated the potential of machine learning (ML) as a substitute for polynomial regression in conventional response surface methodology (RSM) for decolorizing textile wastewater via a UV/HO process. While polynomial regression offers limited adaptability, ML models provide superior flexibility in capturing nonlinear responses but are prone to overfitting, particularly with constrained RSM datasets. In this study, we evaluated decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), multilayer perceptron (MLP), and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) models with respect to a quadratic regression model.

The size and location of the corpus luteum and the presence of coexistent follicles are crucial factors in synchronizing recipients and determining the suitability for embryo transfer. However, there has been a recent decline in conception rates after embryo transfer, which is attributed to environmental pollution, uterine inflammation, ovarian cysts, and other factors. Therefore, we conducted experiments to establish a novel criterion for successful embryo transfer assessment.

hMAGEA2 as a potential diagnostic and therapeutic target for melanoma progression and metastasis.

Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand)

November 2024

Department of Animal Science and Biotechnology, ITRD, Kyungpook National University, Sangju 37224, South Korea.

The incidence of melanoma, a highly aggressive skin cancer, continues to increase worldwide, particularly among populations with lighter skin tones. The diagnostic challenge of melanoma lies in the absence of a distinctive clinical presentation, as its characteristics vary based on anatomical location, growth type, and histopathology. The melanoma-associated antigen (MAGE) gene family is differentially expressed in various human cancers, including melanoma.

The lutropin/chorionic gonadotropin receptor (LH/CGR) belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor family, characterized by conserved leucine residues in their carboxyl-terminal cytoplasmic tails. This study aimed to investigate the functional significance of the equine LH/CGR (eLH/CGR) trileucine motif in signal transduction. Wild-type eLH/CGR (eLH/CGR-wt) and mutant receptors, in which the trileucine motif was altered to alanine (eLH/CGR-ALL, LAL, LLA, and AAA), were analyzed in transfected cells.
