Arterial and venous thrombosis are major causes of morbidity and mortality. Arterial thrombosis is the most common cause of myocardial infarction, stroke, and limb gangrene. Venous thrombosis leads to potentially fatal pulmonary embolism and to post-phlebitic syndrome.
