The fast spread and severe consequences of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have once again underscored the critical necessity of early detection of viral infections. Several serology-based techniques, including as point-of-care assays and high-throughput enzyme immunoassays that support the diagnosis of COVID-19 are utilized in the detection and identification of coronaviruses. Camptothecin, a natural alkaloid, was first isolated from the bark and stem of the Camptotheca acuminate tree in China. It, along with its analogs, has demonstrated potent anti-cancer activity in preclinical studies, particularly against solid tumors such as lung, breast, ovarian, and colon cancer. Despite its promising anti-cancer activity, the application of camptothecin is limited due to its poor solubility, toxicity, and limited biodistribution.

Neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) refer to a complex heterogeneous group of diseases which are associated with the accumulation of amyloid fibrils or plaques in the brain leading to progressive loss of neuronal functions. Alzheimer's disease is one of the major NDD responsible for 60-80 % of all dementia cases. Currently, there are no curative or disease-reversing/modifying molecules for many of the NDDs except a few such as donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine, carbidopa and levodopa which treat the disease-associated symptoms.
