In this work, a novel and very interesting analytical methodology based on coupling of digital image processing and three-way calibration has been developed for determination of nitrite in food samples. Nitrite in contact with Griess reagent is able to produce a red-colored azo dye whose color intensity is correlated with nitrite concentration and here, a piece of Whatman filter paper impregnated with Griess reagent was used as the platform of the sensor and a SONY Xperia Z5 cell phone was used for image capturing from the sensor surface. To generate second-order data, the -number of the camera's sensor was changed as an instrumental parameter.

In this study, development of a needle trap device (NTD) packed with UiO-66 adsorbent was used for the sampling of the aromatic amine compounds (including aniline, ,-dimethylaniline and -toluidine) followed by gas chromatography (GC) with flame-ionization detector (FID) analysis. The UiO-66 sorbent was synthesized and then packed inside a spinal needle (Gauge 22). The synthesized sorbent was characterized with the XRD, FE-SEM, EDS and FT-IR techniques.

In this research, the degradation of the insecticide diazinon was studied using a new hybrid catalyst consisting of magnesium oxide nanoparticles (nano-MgO), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and graphite (Gr), nano-MgO@CNT@Gr, under various experimental conditions. This study shows the optimization of the nano-MgO@CNT@Gr/O process for diazinon degradation in aqueous solutions. Box-Behnken experimental design (BBD) and response surface methodology (RSM) were used to assess and optimize the solo effects and interactions of four variables, pH, catalyst loading, reaction time, and initial diazinon concentration, during the nano-MgO@CNT@Gr/O process.

In real-scale applications, where NPs are injected into the aqueous environment for remediation, they may interact with natural organic matter (NOM). This interaction can alter nanoparticles' (NPs) physicochemical properties, sorption behavior, and even ecological effects. This study aimed to investigate sorption of Pb(ii) onto multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) in presence of NOM.

2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is one of the most commonly used herbicides in the world. In this work, the electro-catalytic degradation of 2,4-D herbicide from aqueous solutions was evaluated using three anode electrodes, , lead dioxide coated on stainless steel 316 (SS316/β-PbO), lead dioxide coated on a lead bed (Pb/β-PbO), and lead dioxide coated on graphite (G/β-PbO). The structure and morphology of the prepared electrodes were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX).

This study aimed to investigate the electro-degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) from aqueous solution using two and three-dimensional electrode (2D and 3D) reactors with graphite(G)/β-PbO anode. To increase the degradation efficiency, affecting parameters on the electro-degradation process were investigated and optimized by adopting the Taguchi design of experiments approach. The structure, morphology and electrochemical properties of the electrodes were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), linear sweep voltammetry and cyclic voltammograms.

Background: Experimental studies provide evidence for antidepressant effects of Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) in animal models of depression. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of PEA add-on therapy in treatment of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD).

Methods: In a randomized double-blind, and placebo-controlled study, 58 patients with MDD (DSM-5) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) score ≥ 19 were randomized to receive either 600 mg twice daily Palmitoylethanolamide or placebo in addition to citalopram for six weeks.

J Neurol Sci

August 2016

Department of Medical Genetics, School of Medicine, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran; Cellular and Molecular research center, School of Medicine, Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences, Sanandaj, Kurdistan, Iran. Electronic address:

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory, demyelinating, and neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system (CNS) with a complex etiology. Given the Vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene, it is considered an outstanding risk component associated with MS. The aim of the present study has been to explore and emphasize the role of ApaI, BsmI, TaqI and FokI polymorphisms of VDR gene in susceptibility to MS in an Iranian case-control population including 160 patients and 150 healthy controls.
