Valuable insights for preventing sports injuries in athletes have been achieved through advancements in genetics. This study aimed to determine the allelic frequency of distinct single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in a group of high-level athletes of Arab origin and to explore whether any significant relationship exists between specific genotypes in the selected SNPs with the prevalence and severity of non-contact soft tissue injuries (NCSTIs) and stress fracture injuries (SFIs). A cohort of 30 Arab male adult athletes trained at the same Sports excellence Centre from various individual sports was recruited and genotyped for collagen type 5 alpha 1 () rs12722 and vitamin D receptor () rs10735810 variants.

: Laparoscopic surgery, which results in less bleeding, less postoperative pain, and better cosmetic results, may affect the lung dynamics via the pneumoperitoneum. After laparoscopic surgery, atelectasis develops. The primary aim of the present study is to demonstrate the effects of two different ventilation modes on the development of atelectasis using lung ultrasound, and the secondary outcomes include the plateau pressure, peak inspiratory pressure, and compliance differences between the groups.

Background: Non-invasive tests (NITs), such as Fibrosis-4 index (FIB-4) and the aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index (APRI), developed using classical statistical methods, are increasingly used for determining liver fibrosis stages and recommended in treatment guidelines replacing the liver biopsy. Application of conventional cutoffs of FIB-4 and APRI resulted in high rates of misclassification of fibrosis stages.
Aim: There is an unmet need for more accurate NITs that can overcome the limitations of FIB-4 and APRI.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate changes in tarsal bones relationship after the use of one week accelerated Ponseti method in the treatment of severe idiopathic clubfoot using MRI. We hypothesize that one-week accelerated Ponseti is at least as effective as standard techniques in achieving the desirable MRI parameters.
Methods: This is a prospective study of 8 children with severe idiopathic clubfeet (Pirani 6) (4 unilateral and 4 bilateral) treated before the age of three months with one-week accelerated Ponseti technique, as described in a former study with minimum 2-year follow-up.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a progressive disease with multifactorial etiology. The first-line therapy includes monotherapy (with metformin), which often fails to provide effective glycemic control, necessitating the addition of add-on therapy. In this regard, multiple single-dose agents formulated as a single-dose form called fixed-dose combinations (FDCs) have been evaluated for their safety, efficacy, and tolerability.

This study compared the safety and efficacy of the on-demand (OD) use of sertraline (50 mg), sertraline (100 mg) and dapoxetine (30 mg), and the daily use of sertraline (50 mg) in the treatment of patients with premature ejaculation (PE). This prospective randomised study involved 120 lifelong PE patients (intravaginal ejaculatory latency time [IELT]: <1 min; Arabic Index of Premature Ejaculation [AIPE] score: < 30) without secondary causes of PE, identified between March 2018 and May 2020. Patients were divided into 4 groups (30 patients per group) and treated for 8 weeks.

Aim: The primary objective of this document is to develop practice-based expert group opinion on certain important but less discussed endocrine and metabolic effects of modern sulfonylureas (SUs) and their usage in the management of diabetes mellitus (DM).
Background: Modern SUs may be considered a panacea in DM care with their beneficial extra-pancreatic, pleiotropic, and cardiovascular effects. Safe glycemic control with SUs could be achieved with appropriate patient selection, drug and dosage selection, and patient empowerment.

The combination of Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome and rheumatic mitral stenosis (MS) is rare in clinical practice. The management of this condition primarily depends on the clinical picture. We describe a 26-year-old male patient with no significant previous medical history and who came for a routine medical assessment before entrance to a police academy service.

Background: Elevated levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) are detected in 25% to 80% of infertile men. They are involved in the pathology of male infertility. Understanding the effect of increasing levels of ROS on the differential expression of sperm proteins is important to understand the cellular processes and or/pathways that may be implicated in male infertility.

Extrinsic compression of airways is one the most important causes of respiratory insufficiency in the perioperative period in children with congenital heart disease. This is especially true of pathologies that involve surgery of the aortic arch or conduit replacement of the right ventricular outflow tract. However bronchial obstruction is uncommon in the setting of bidirectional cavopulmonary shunt alone.

Egypt has the highest prevalence of recorded hepatitis C virus (HCV) worldwide, estimated nationally at 14.7%, which is attributed to extensive iatrogenic transmission during the era of parenteral antischistosomal therapy (PAT) mass-treatment campaigns. The objective of our study was to attempt to highlight to what extent HCV transmission is ongoing and discuss the possible risk factors.

Ventricular septal defect (VSD) with prolapse of the right coronary cusp and aortic regurgitation can be managed surgically with the anatomical correction technique. However when the VSD is located underneath the non coronary cusp surgical management differs due to anatomical constraints and secondary pathological changes seen in the non coronary cusp. It is therefore important that the location of the VSD and the morphology of prolapsing cusp be characterised preoperatively in order to plan appropriate surgical repair.
