Association of corneal endothelial cell morphology with neurodegeneration in mild cognitive impairment and dementia.

Introduction: Corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) detects neurodegeneration in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia and identifies subjects with MCI who develop dementia. This study assessed whether abnormalities in corneal endothelial cell (CEC) morphology are related to corneal nerve morphology, brain volumetry, cerebral ischemia, and cognitive impairment in MCI and dementia.

Methods: Participants with no cognitive impairment (NCI), MCI, and dementia underwent CCM to quantify corneal endothelial cell density (CECD) and area (CECA), corneal nerve fiber morphology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain volumetry, and severity of brain ischemia.

Anterior C2 Odontoid Fixation Using Cranial Brainlab Navigation: A Novel Approach and Case Report.

Instrumentation of the cervical spine particularly at the higher cervical levels like C2 presents unique challenges mainly because of their complex anatomy and proximity to neurovascular structures. The goal of the article is to demonstrate that using navigation technologies in inserting anterior odontoid screws can enhance the precision and safety of surgery. We describe a novel approach for anterior C2 odontoid fixation using a three-pin radiolucent Mayfield clamp with intra-operative CT registration and cranial brainlab navigation.

Innovative Modifications in Diamond Umbilicoplasty: Simplified Techniques for Improved Cosmetic Results.

Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to investigate the association between DR and periodontitis in patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Behçet's Disease and Aneurysms: A Case Series of Vascular Involvement and Outcomes.

Large vessel vasculitis (LVV) is a group of inflammatory diseases that affect the aorta and its major branches, causing stenosis, aneurysms, or dissections. LVV can be associated with various disorders, such as IgG4-related disease, Takayasu arteritis, giant cell arteritis, and Behcet's disease. Aneurysms due to Behcet's disease are rare and challenging to manage, as they have high rates of morbidity and mortality.

The First Observational Study of Acute Medical Unit in Qatar.

 Acute medical unit (AMU) is a dedicated facility to treat patients with acute medical conditions requiring a short hospital stay (< 72 hours) with the support of a multidisciplinary team led by a medical consultant. We aim to present a study of the AMU model of care from Qatar to provide insight into its effects on patient care and management.  Retrospective data from AMU facility at Hamad General Hospital (HGH), Doha, Qatar, was collected from January 2019 to December 2020 from the electronic patient record.

Quality of life following Shouldice Repair: a prospective cohort study among inguinal hernia patients.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate quality of life from the preoperative time to six months after surgery of patients who underwent a Shouldice Repair for primary inguinal hernia.

Methods: After ethical approval, consent was obtained, and data collected from surveys and chart review. The study population was composed of male and female patients aged 16-90 years of age, who had a Shouldice Repair of a primary unilateral inguinal hernia.

Survival rates with favorable neurological outcomes after in-hospital and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: A prospective cohort study.

Objectives: To evaluate the survival rates with favorable neurological outcomes among patients who experienced in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).

Design: This prospective cohort study assessed 554 adult patients with IHCA or OHCA referred to Hamad General Hospital, Qatar, between February 2015 and November 2021. Neurologic outcomes were measured using the Cerebral Performance Category (CPC) score.

Ultrasound-Guided Bilateral Modified-Thoracoabdominal Nerve Block Through a Perichondral Approach in a Patient Undergoing Bilateral Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair: A Case Report.

Background: Modified thoracoabdominal nerve block through the perichondrial approach (M TAPA), described by Tulgar et al in 2019, is a relatively new block. The block is relatively superficial and easy to perform. It has been successfully used in various laparoscopic surgeries and has been shown to reduce the perioperative opioid requirements.

Background: : Globally, there is significant variation in the out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) survival rate. Early links in the chain of survival, including bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator at the scene, are known to be of crucial importance, with strong evidence of increased survival rate with good neurological outcomes. The data from the Middle East are limited and report variable rates of bystander CPR and survival.

The global demand for hospital care, driven by population growth and medical advances, emphasizes the importance of optimized resource management. Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols aim to expedite patient recovery and reduce health care costs without compromising patient safety or satisfaction. Its principles have been adopted in various surgical specialties but have not fully encompassed all areas of neurosurgery, including craniotomy.
