Background: Electrocardiography is one of the most valuable noninvasive diagnostic tools in determining the presence of many cardiovascular diseases. Genetic factors are important in determining ECG abnormalities and their link to cardiovascular diseases. Genome-wide association studies and polygenic risk scores (PRSs) have been conducted for various ECG traits such as QT interval and QRS duration.

This research delves into the role of metal ions in enhancing the electronic properties of 5,5'-bis(mercaptomethyl)-2,2'-bipyridine (BPD) self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). It combines experimental techniques and numerical simulations to understand the impact of these ions on the structural, electronic, and transport properties of BPD SAMs. Key findings include the varied bonding preferences of metal ions and their significant role in modifying the electronic structure of BPD molecules, leading to enhanced electron delocalization and migration.

Background: We investigated the contribution of age, coexisting medical conditions, sex, and vaccination to incidence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and of severe, critical, or fatal COVID-19 in older adults since pandemic onset.

Methods: A national retrospective cohort study was conducted in the population of Qatar aged ≥50 years between February 5, 2020 and June 15, 2023. Adjusted hazard ratios (AHRs) for infection and for severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outcomes were estimated through Cox regression models.

Background: A key question for any psychopathological diagnosis is whether the condition is continuous or discontinuous with typical variation. The primary objective of this study was to use a multi-method approach to examine the broad latent categorical versus dimensional structure of autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Method: Data were aggregated across seven independent samples of participants with ASD, other neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD), and non-ASD/NDD controls (aggregate s = 512-16,755; ages 1.

Intermolecular cross-linking through electron irradiation is proven to be an effective tool to improve the mechanical and electronic properties of molecular self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), which is known to be a key player for material nanoarchitectonics. Here we study the effect of electron irradiation on the electronic transport properties of aromatic 5,5'-bis(mercaptomethyl)-2,2'-bipyridine (BPD; HS-CH2-(C5H3N)2-CH2-SH) and electron saturated 1-dodecanethiol (C12; CH3-(CH2)11-SH) molecules self-assembled on an Au (111) surface. We could not create any successful junctions for transport measurements for the electron irradiated C12 SAMs due the deterioration of such molecules with electron saturated nature.

This study examined parents' ( = 10,141, 64% women) reports of their and their childrens' depression, anxiety, and stress in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina. The data come from the COVID-19 Family Life Study (Ben Brik, 2020) and cohort recruited between April and December 2020. Participants completed online surveys that included the DASS-21 and the Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale.

The COVID-19 pandemic initially caused worldwide concerns about food insecurity. Tweets analyzed in real-time may help food assistance providers target food supplies to where they are most urgently needed. In this exploratory study, we use natural language processing to extract sentiments and emotions expressed in food security-related tweets early in the pandemic in U.

Background Critical limb ischemia (CLI) represents the most severe form of peripheral artery disease and is associated with significant mortality and morbidity. Contemporary data comparing the sex differences in trends, revascularization strategies, and in-hospital outcomes among patients with CLI are scarce. Methods and Results Using the National Inpatient Sample database years 2002 to 2015, we identified hospitalizations for CLI.

Background Well-conducted meta-analyses are considered to be at the top of the evidence-based hierarchy pyramid, with an expansion of these publications within the cardiovascular research arena. There are limited data evaluating the trends and quality of such publications. The objective of this study was to evaluate the methodological rigor and temporal trends of cardiovascular medicine-related meta-analyses published in the highest impact journals.

We investigated hepatitis C virus (HCV) epidemiology in populations with liver-related diseases (LRDs) in the Middle East and North Africa. The data source was standardized databases of HCV measures populated through systematic reviews. Random-effects meta-analyses and meta-regressions were performed, and genotype diversity was assessed.

Ordered carbon composite materials have great potential for practical applications in many areas such as energy conversion, quantum computing, biotechnologies, and electronics. In this work, we demonstrate a state-of-the-art self-assembly driven building block approach to create new layered carbon-metal composite materials with advanced properties. We fabricate molecular nanocomposites using self-assembled metal intercalated multi-layers of dithiol derivatives.

Expanding hepatitis C virus (HCV) treatment coverage is challenged by limited testing and diagnosis. This study assessed the risk of exposure, for the Middle East and North Africa, by population, yields of testing, and program efficiency of testing strategies. A standardized and systematically assembled database of 2,542 HCV antibody prevalence studies on 49 million individuals was analyzed.

15q deletions have been described in association with intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Previous reports have supported the role of 15q24 low copy repeats (LCRs) in mediating alternatively sized genomic rearrangements. Based on our reported finding of a 15q24 deletion coinciding with two LCR regions in a patient with epilepsy and ASD, we recommend that patients with 15q24 deletions be evaluated for ASD for early institution of therapy.

Various chromosomal anomalies including small supernumerary marker chromosome (sSMC) and Uniparental disomy (UPD) have been described in association with intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder. Based on our reported findings, we recommend that patients with sSMC(8) be evaluated for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) for early institution of therapy. In the presence of an identifiable sSMC, exploration of UPD is also recommended to further investigate the role of chromosome 8 UPD in ASD.
