Hectorite-CTAB-alginate composite beads for water treatment: kinetic, isothermal and thermodynamic studies.

RSC Adv

January 2023

Department of Chemistry, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya 60111 Indonesia

Encapsulation of hectorite-modified CTAB with Ca-alginate formed reusable adsorbent beads for wastewater treatment. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) investigation indicated excellent thermal stability results for BHec-40 compared to Hec-40. Although the mesoporous surface area of BHec-40 decreased to 79.

Although there are many examples of color evolution potentially driven by sensory drive, only few studies have examined whether distinct species inhabiting the same environments evolve similar body colors via shared sensory mechanisms. In this study, we tested whether two sympatric freshwater fish taxa, halfbeaks of the genus and ricefishes of the genus in Sulawesi Island, converge in both body color and visual sensitivity. After reconstructing the phylogeny separately for and using transcriptome-wide sequences, we demonstrated positive correlations of body redness between these two taxa across environments, even after phylogenetic corrections, which support convergent evolution.

Heavy metal bioaccumulation in mangrove ecosystem at the coral triangle ecoregion, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Mar Pollut Bull

December 2017

Department of Mechanical and Environmental Informatics, Graduate School of Information Science and Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan.

This study aimed to determine the role of mangroves as a biofilter of heavy metals. The concentrations of heavy metals, namely copper, mercury, cadmium, zinc, and lead, in the mangroves Rhizophora apiculata, Ceriops tagal, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Lumnitzera racemosa, Xylocarpus granatum, Sonneratia alba, and Bruguiera parviflora at RAWN Park were determined using a Flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer. High concentrations of Cu (83.
