Gastric cancer frequently leads to gastric outlet obstruction (GOO), causing significant symptoms and complications. Surgical bypass and stenting are two representative palliative treatments for GOO by gastric cancer. This study reviews clinical guidelines for malignant GOO treatment, highlighting differences in recommendations based on patient survival expectations and systemic health.

Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) infection significantly elevates the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), with the HBV X protein (HBx) playing a crucial role in cancer progression. Sorafenib, the primary therapy for advanced HCC, shows limited effectiveness in HBV-infected patients due to HBx-related resistance. Numerous studies have explored combination therapies to overcome this resistance.

This study constructed deep learning models using plain skull radiograph images to predict the accurate postnatal age of infants under 12 months. Utilizing the results of the trained deep learning models, it aimed to evaluate the feasibility of employing major changes visible in skull X-ray images for assessing postnatal cranial development through gradient-weighted class activation mapping. We developed DenseNet-121 and EfficientNet-v2-M convolutional neural network models to analyze 4933 skull X-ray images collected from 1343 infants.

The frequency of the apolipoprotein E ɛ4 allele and vascular risk factors differs among ethnic groups. We aimed to assess the combined effects of apolipoprotein E ɛ4 and vascular risk factors on brain age in Korean and UK cognitively unimpaired populations. We also aimed to determine the differences in the combined effects between the two populations.

Gastric cancer (GC) survivors may be more likely to develop osteoporosis. However, few studies on the relationship between GC and osteoporosis have been conducted on large patient populations. We aimed to determine the incidence of osteoporosis and identify related factors by comparing patients with GC and matched controls using the Korean National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort (KNHIS-NSC).

This retrospective study aimed to compare the outcomes of modified double-flanged sutureless scleral fixation versus sutured scleral fixation. Medical records of 65 eyes from 65 patients who underwent double-flanged scleral fixation (flange group) or conventional scleral fixation (suture group) between 2021 and 2022 were reviewed. Visual and refractive outcomes, as well as postoperative complications, were compared 1, 2, and 6 months after surgery.

Purpose: The Korean Cancer Study Group (KCSG) is a nationwide cancer clinical trial group dedicated to advancing investigator-initiated trials (IITs) by conducting and supporting clinical trials. This study aims to review IITs conducted by KCSG and quantitatively evaluate the survival and financial benefits of IITs for patients.
Materials And Methods: We reviewed IITs conducted by KCSG from 1998 to 2023, analyzing progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) gains for participants.

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of gemigliptin and dapagliflozin dual add-on therapy (GEMI + DAPA) to metformin in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients who had inadequate glycaemic control on metformin alone, compared with a single add-on of either gemigliptin (GEMI) or dapagliflozin (DAPA) to metformin.
Materials And Methods: In this randomized, double-blind, double-dummy, active-controlled, parallel-group, phase 3 study, 469 T2D patients treated with a stable dose of metformin for 8 weeks or longer were randomized to receive GEMI + DAPA (n = 157) and either GEMI (n = 156) or DAPA (n = 156). The primary endpoint was change in HbA1c levels from baseline at week 24.

Introduction: Although white matter hyperintensity (WMH) shares similar vascular risk and pathology with small vessel occlusion (SVO) stroke, there were few studies to evaluate the impact of the burden of WMH volume on early and delayed stroke outcomes in SVO stroke.
Materials And Methods: Using a multicenter registry database, we enrolled SVO stroke patients between August 2013 and November 2022. The WMH volume was estimated by automated methods using deep learning (VUNO Med-DeepBrain, Seoul, South Korea), which was a commercially available segmentation model.

Low blood pressure (BP) is associated with poor outcomes in patients with heart failure (HF). We investigated the influence of initial BP on the prognosis of HF patients at admission, and prescribing patterns of HF medications, such as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi), angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB), and beta-blockers (BB). Data were sourced from a multicentre cohort of patients admitted for acute HF.

Introduction: This multicenter phase I/IIa study aimed to determine the recommended phase II dose (RP2D) and evaluate the safety and preliminary efficacy of liposomal irinotecan (nal-IRI), oxaliplatin, and S-1 (NASOX) as first-line treatment for advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
Methods: Patients with locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma without prior systemic treatment for advanced disease, aged ≥ 19 years, with measurable disease, and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 0-1 were eligible. The primary endpoints were to determine the dose-limiting toxicity (DLT) in the phase I cohort and overall response rate (ORR) in the phase IIa cohort.

Background And Objectives: Atrial fibrillation (AF), the most common atrial arrhythmia (AA), is an increasing healthcare burden in Korea. The objective of this sub-analysis of the Cryo Global Registry was to evaluate long-term efficacy, symptom burden, quality of life (QoL), and healthcare utilization outcomes and factors associated with AA recurrence in Korean patients treated with cryoballoon ablation (CBA).
Methods: Patients were treated and followed up according to local standard-of-care in 3 Korean hospitals.
