Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), featured by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection and regional epidemiology, is curable when detected early, but highly lethal at an advanced stage. The molecular mechanism of NPC progression toward a clinically uncontrollable stage remains elusive. In this study, we developed a novel computational framework to conduct multiscale transcriptomic analysis during NPC progression.

Objective: To investigate the effect of levothyroxine sodium tablets (L-T4) on pregnancy outcome and offspring development quotient in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) during pregnancy. Pregnant women with gestational age less than 12 weeks who underwent the first prenatal examination in our hospital from January 2019 to December 2019 were prospectively selected as subjects. According to the level of thyroid hormone in pregnant women, they were divided into the treatment group (n = 63) and received L-T4 treatment, untreated group (n = 64), and control group (n = 54).

The taxonomy of the genus remains confusing, particularly regarding and In 2012, ribosomal multi-locus sequence typing reclassified both as , but data concerning 17 strains remain available in GenBank. The continuous progress of high-throughput sequencing has facilitated ready accessibility of whole-genome data, promoting vigorous development of average nucleotide identity (ANI) and high-resolution phylogenetic analysis. Here, we report that a isolate, which caused native-valve endocarditis and multiple embolic brain infarcts in a patient with congenital heart disease, was misidentified as by VITEK MS.

Background: Acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) could be triggered by community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Peripheral blood eosinopenia are strongly associated with increased mortality. In hospitalized AECOPD patients with CAP, eosinopenia may be used to identify patients with high risk of death on admission.

Currently, the most widely used screening methods for hyperuricemia (HUA) involves invasive laboratory tests, which are lacking in many rural hospitals in China. This study explored the use of non-invasive physical examinations to construct a simple prediction model for HUA, in order to reduce the economic burden and invasive operations such as blood sampling, and provide some help for the health management of people in poor areas with backward medical resources. Data of 9252 adults from April to June 2017 in the Affiliated Hospital of Guilin Medical College were collected and divided randomly into a training set (n = 6364) and a validation set (n = 2888) at a ratio of 7:3.

Studies have shown that a permanent left bundle branch pacing (LBBP) is feasible and may be clinically beneficial. The paced QRS morphology in a permanent LBBP typically manifests as a right bundle branch block pattern (RBBB) because the left ventricle is activated earlier than the right ventricle. We present one such case in which a small change in the pacing rate strongly influenced the LBBP QRS morphology.

To evaluate the relationship between systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the risk of retinal vasculitis (RV) using a population-based database. Using the 1997-2013 Taiwanese National Health Insurance Database, we identified newly diagnosed SLE patients between 2001 and 2012 as the SLE group. We matched the SLE group with non-SLE individuals selected from a representative one million sample of the population in a 1:20 ratio for age, sex, and the year of the index date.

Background: Acute promyelocytic leukemia differentiation syndrome (APL DS) is a common and severe complication seen in patients with APL treated with all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and/or arsenic trioxide (ATO). The presenting symptoms of APL DS are diverse, and rare symptoms are easy to be misdiagnosed. Therefore, it is very crucial to identify DS from uncommon signs to avoid delay in treatment.

Purpose: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the most serious complications of diabetes that leads to decline of renal function. Although numerous studies have revealed that microRNAs (miRNAs) play essential roles in the progression of DN, whether miR-365 is involved remains elusive.
Methods: The successful construction of DN model was confirmed by ELSIA, hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and Masson staining assay.

Background: Due to the fact that pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) is a highly infectious respiratory disease characterized by high herd susceptibility and hard to be treated, this study aimed to search novel effective biomarkers to improve the prognosis and treatment of PTB patients.
Methods: Firstly, bioinformatics analysis was performed to identify PTB-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from GEO database, which were then subjected to GO annotation and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis to initially describe their functions. Afterwards, clustering analysis was conducted to identify PTB-related gene clusters and relevant PPI networks were established using the STRING database.

The cartilaginous endplate (CEP) is a thin layer of hyaline cartilage, and plays an important role in the diffusion of nutrients into the intervertebral discs. Its damage may seriously affect the disc degeneration, and result in low back pain (LBP). However, the structural features of damaged CEPs have not been well characterized, and this hinders our understanding of the etiology of disc degeneration and pain.

Calcipressin-1, also known as regulator of calcineurin 1 (RCAN1), can specifically bind calcineurin at or near the calcineurin A catalytic domain and downregulate calcineurin activity. However, whether RCAN1 affects the hypoxic intervertebral disc (IVD) phenotype through the calcineurin/NFAT signaling pathway remains unclear. First, we confirmed the characteristics of the degenerative nucleus pulposus (NP) by H&E, safranin O/fast green and Alcian blue staining, and detected increased RCAN1 levels in the degenerative NP by immunohistochemistry.

Asthma is the most common chronic disease and is characterized by airway remodeling and chronic inflammation. Increasingly, studies have found that the activation and M1 phenotypic transformation of macrophages play important roles in asthma progress, including airway remodeling. However, the reversal of M1 macrophages to the M2 phenotype has been shown to attenuate airway remodeling.

However, there is a paucity of data regarding the CHA2DS2-VASc and SAMe-TT2R2 scores as predictors of outcomes among patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation on vitamin K antagonists after radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA).
Methods: The current prospective observational study enrolled 304 consecutive patients with atrial fibrillation who underwent RFCA.
