Background: Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a rapidly progressing chronic liver disease of global significance. However, the underlying mechanisms responsible for NASH remain unknown. Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) has been recognized as essential factor in immune response and metabolic regulation.

Ketogenic diet and β-Hydroxybutyrate alleviate ischemic brain injury in mice via an IRAKM-dependent pathway.

Eur J Pharmacol

Department of Neurology, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, 510515, China. Electronic address:

Ketogenic diet (KD) is a classical nonpharmacological therapy that has recently been shown to benefit cerebral ischemia, but the mechanism remains unclear. This study investigated the neuroprotective effects of KD pretreatment and β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB, bioactive product of KD) post-treatment in a mouse model of temporary middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO). Neurological function, infarct volume, as well as inflammatory reactions are evaluated 24 h after ischemia.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by microglia activation that leads to neuroinflammation. Heat shock transcription factor 1 (HSF1) is known to exert neuroprotective effects on neurodegenerative diseases. This study sought to analyse the role and mechanism of HSF1 in PD-induced neuroinflammation.

Introduction: Antidepressants are the front-line treatments for major depressive disorder (MDD), but remain unsatisfactory in outcome. An increasing number of patients are interested in acupuncture and moxibustion treatment as complementary therapies. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of integrative acupuncture and moxibustion (iAM) treatment in patients with MDD.

Purposes: To identify the circular RNA (circRNA) expression profile in the synovium of patients with osteoarthritis (OA) and explore their potential regulatory mechanism.

Methods: Transcriptome high-throughput sequencing was used to detect the expression profiles of circRNA and mRNA. We performed real-time PCR for the validation of circRNAs and used bioinformatics analysis to predict their possible biological functions.

Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine, Guangdong Provincial Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Guangzhou, China; Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Joint Lab on Chinese Medicine and Immune Disease Research, Guangzhou, China; State Key Laboratory of Dampness Syndrome of Chinese Medicine, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou, China. Electronic address:

Background: Complementary and alternative therapy is widely used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A Chinese herbal medicine, JianPiYiFei (JPYF) II granules, have been shown to improve COPD patients' quality of life, however long-term effectiveness has not been examined.

Purpose: To investigate whether long-term treatment with JPYF II granules is effective and safe for patients with stable, moderate to very severe COPD.

The pathophysiological mechanism of carotid atherosclerosis (CAS) involves endothelial cell dysfunction, vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), and macrophage activation, which ultimately leads to fibrosis of the vessel wall. lncRNA works weightily in the formation of CAS, but the function and mechanism of lncRNA LINC01123 in stable plaque formation are still equivocal. We collected blood samples from 35 CAS patients as well as 33 healthy volunteers.

Isoflavones are major neuroprotective components of a medicinal herb against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury but the mechanisms of neuroprotection remain unclear. Calycosin and formononetin are two major AR isoflavones while daidzein is the metabolite of formononetin after absorption. Herein, we aim to investigate the synergistic neuroprotective effects of those isoflavones of against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Third Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha 410013, China.

To conduct genetic analysis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma tissues and analyze the correlation between targeted microRNA (miRNA) and pathways in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
Methods: We collected 19 samples of peripheral venous blood serum from patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma in Hainan Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine, and also collected 21 blood serum samples as a control group of non-pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. We used the bioinformatics analysis of literature GCBI data platform for screening and analyzing the genetics of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma samples.
