Solar-driven interfacial evaporation has enormous promise for fresh water recovery and salt harvesting, but salt accumulation-related challenges stand in its way. Herein, we report a spined groove-ridge pairs inspired by the shell ornamentation of the Vasticardium vertebratum, which addresses salt accumulation by artfully integrating salt reflux into localized salt crystallization. The seashell-mimetic radial V-groove array enables the 3D evaporator to transport water rapidly and directionally, resulting in high-performance water evaporation (∼95% efficiency) and localized crystallization.

Chikungunya fever, caused by Chikungunya virus (CHIKV), is an Aedes mosquito-borne disease present worldwide, and millions of CHIKV infections have been reported. Treatment for CHIKV includes supportive care and anti-inflammatory medications, but there are currently no antiviral treatments or vaccines. Nonstructural protein 2 (nsP2) of CHIKV is the most important functional protein mediating virus replication and amplification, making it an ideal antiviral target for CHIKV.

Background: The effects of the fat-to-muscle ratio (FMR) on hyperuricemia and a reduction in the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) are still unclear.
Methods: Data from the China National Health Survey were used to explore the associations of the FMR with hyperuricemia and reduced eGFR. The fat mass and muscle mass were measured through bioelectrical impedance analysis.

To date, epidemiological characteristics of non-typhoidal (NTS) implicated in human salmonellosis in China are still obscure. Herein, we investigate the antimicrobial resistance and genomic features of NTS isolated from outpatients in Shaoxing city in 2020.

Invasive nontyphoidal Salmonella (iNTS) causes extraintestinal infections with ~15% case fatality in many countries. However, the mechanism by which iNTS emerged in China remains unaddressed. We conducted clinical investigations of iNTS infection with recurrent treatment failure, caused by underreported Salmonella enterica serovar Livingstone (SL).

Emerging and re-emerging viruses like influenza virus pose a continuous global public health threat. Vaccines are one of the most effective public health strategies for controlling infectious diseases. However, little is known about the immunological features of vaccination at the single-cell resolution, including for influenza vaccination.

The antimicrobial resistance (AMR) crisis from bacterial pathogens is frequently emerging and rapidly disseminated during the sustained antimicrobial exposure in human-dominated communities, posing a compelling threat as one of the biggest challenges in humans. The frequent incidences of some common but untreatable infections unfold the public health catastrophe that antimicrobial-resistant pathogens have outpaced the available countermeasures, now explicitly amplified during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nowadays, biotechnology and machine learning advancements help create more fundamental knowledge of distinct spatiotemporal dynamics in AMR bacterial adaptation and evolutionary processes.

Background: To mitigate a national shortage of WIBP-CorV COVID-19 vaccine, China's regulator approved administering BBIBP-CorV after WIBP-CorV for completion of a primary series. In a pragmatic observational study, we compared immunogenicity and safety of a primary series of WIBP-CorV followed by BBIBP-CorV with a primary series of two doses of BBIBP-CorV.
Methods: We invited healthy 18-59-years-old adults who had already received either WIBP-CorV or BBIBP-CorV as their first dose in a primary series to participate in this observational cohort study.

Seizures are a common symptom of craniocerebral diseases, and epilepsy is one of the comorbidities of craniocerebral diseases. However, how to rationally use anti-seizure medications (ASMs) in the perioperative period of craniocerebral surgery to control or avoid seizures and reduce their associated harm is a problem. The China Association Against Epilepsy (CAAE) united with the Trauma Group of the Chinese Neurosurgery Society, Glioma Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, Neuro-Oncology Branch of the Chinese Neuroscience Society, and Neurotraumatic Group of Chinese Trauma Society, and selected experts for consultancy regarding outcomes from evidence-based medicine in domestic and foreign literature.

The exosomal miRNA (exo-miRNA) derived from tumor cells contains rich biological information that can effectively aid in the early diagnosis of disease. However, the extremely low abundance imposes stringent requirements for accurate detection techniques. In this study, a novel, protease-free DNA amplification strategy, known as "Rolling Hoop Orbital Amplification" (RHOA), was initially developed based on the design concept of local reaction and inspired by the childhood game of rolling iron ring.

To control the ongoing coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, CoronaVac (Sinovac), an inactivated vaccine, has been granted emergency use authorization by many countries. However, the underlying mechanisms of the inactivated COVID-19 vaccine-induced immune response remain unclear, and little is known about its features compared to (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) SARS-CoV-2 infection. Here, we implemented single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to profile longitudinally collected PBMCs (peripheral blood mononuclear cells) in six individuals immunized with CoronaVac and compared these to the profiles of COVID-19 infected patients from a Single Cell Consortium.
