Electronic address:

Understanding and quantifying the impact of elevated tropospheric carbon dioxide concentration (e [CO]) on methane (CH) globally is important for effectively assessing and mitigating climate warming. Paddies and wetlands are the two important sources of CH emissions. Yet, a quantitative synthetic investigation of the effects of e [CO] on CH emissions from paddies and wetlands on a global scale has not been conducted.

Whole-transcriptome analyses identify key differentially expressed mRNAs, lncRNAs, and miRNAs associated with male sterility in watermelon.

Front Plant Sci

March 2023

State Key Laboratory of Crop Stress Biology in Arid Areas, College of Horticulture, Northwest A&F University, Yangling, Shaanxi, China.

Male sterility is a valuable trait for watermelon breeding, as watermelon hybrids exhibit obvious heterosis. However, the underlying regulatory mechanism is still largely unknown, especially regarding the related non-coding genes. In the present study, approximately 1035 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), as well as 80 DE-lncRNAs and 10 DE-miRNAs, were identified, with the overwhelming majority down-regulated in male-sterile floral buds.

A review of the endocrine disrupting effects of micro and nano plastic and their associated chemicals in mammals.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

February 2023

Key Laboratory of Adaptation and Evolution of Plateau Biota, Laboratory of Plateau Fish Evolutionary and Functional Genomics, Qinghai Key Laboratory of Animal Ecological Genomics, Northwest Institute of Plateau Biology, Chinese Academy of Science, Xining, China.

Over the years, the vaste expansion of plastic manufacturing has dramatically increased the environmental impact of microplastics [MPs] and nanoplastics [NPs], making them a threat to marine and terrestrial biota because they contain endocrine disrupting chemicals [EDCs] and other harmful compounds. MPs and NPs have deleteriouse impacts on mammalian endocrine components such as hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, adrenal, testes, and ovaries. MPs and NPs absorb and act as a transport medium for harmful chemicals such as bisphenols, phthalates, polybrominated diphenyl ether, polychlorinated biphenyl ether, organotin, perfluorinated compounds, dioxins, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, organic contaminants, and heavy metals, which are commonly used as additives in plastic production.

Systematic Comparison of Structural Characterization of Polysaccharides from .

Molecules

January 2023

College of Food Science and Engineering, Northwest A&F University, Yangling, Xianyang 712100, China.

To investigate the structural information differences of polysaccharides, ten samples were successfully extracted from aqueous and alkaline solutions, prepared via DEAE-Sepharose Fast Flow through different eluents and Sephacryl S-300 columns, and systematically analyzed. Their characteristics were studied and then compared using chemical testing, high-performance gel permeation chromatography (HPGPC), gas chromatography (GC), methylation analysis, and NMR spectroscopy. The data achieved demonstrated that different jujube polysaccharide fractions possessed different structural characteristics, and most of them belonged to pectic polysaccharides.

Based on the bis-β-diketonate-Dy metalloligand [Dy(pbth)]·2EtN (1, pbth = (3z,3'z)-4,4'-(1,3-phenylene)bis(1,1,1-trifluoro-4-hydroxybut-3-en-2-one)), six dinuclear complexes with eight-coordinated geometries were synthesized solvothermally through different capping N-donor coligands or solvent systems. These complexes are namely [Dy(pbth)(Phen)]·2CHOH (2), [Dy(pbth)(BPhen)]·2CHOH (3), [Dy(pbth)(Dppz)]·2CHOH (4), [Dy(pbth)(Dppz)]·2CHOH (4a), [Dy(pbth)(4-Dmbp)]·CHOH·CHOH (5) and [Dy(pbth)(5-Dmbp)]·CHOH (6) (Phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, BPhen = 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline, dppz = dipyrido [3,2-:2',3'-] phenazine, 4-Dmbp = 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridyl, 5-Dmbp = 5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridyl), respectively. In the synthetic processes of 2-6, one of four bis-β-diketonate ligands in the metalloligand is replaced by two capping N-donor coligands.

Delphinieae flowers originated from the rewiring of interactions between duplicated and diversified floral organ identity and symmetry genes.

Plant Cell

March 2023

State Key Laboratory of Systematic and Evolutionary Botany, CAS Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences, Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100093, China.

Species of the tribe Delphinieae (Ranunculaceae) have long been the focus of morphological, ecological, and evolutionary studies due to their highly specialized, nearly zygomorphic (bilaterally symmetrical) spiral flowers with nested petal and sepal spurs and reduced petals. The mechanisms underlying the development and evolution of Delphinieae flowers, however, remain unclear. Here, by conducting extensive phylogenetic, comparative transcriptomic, expression, and functional studies, we clarified the evolutionary histories, expression patterns, and functions of floral organ identity and symmetry genes in Delphinieae.

The extraction of travel-time curve of seismic phase is very important for the subsequent inference of the structural properties of underground media in seismology. In recent years, with the increase in the amount of data, manual processing is facing significant challenges, and automatic signal processing has gradually become the mainstream. According to the similarity of array signals and considering the elimination of outliers, we propose an improved multi-channel cross-correlation method using the L1 norm measure to obtain preliminary results, which builds on a new controllable measurement mode.

Restrictions on antibiotics are driving the search for alternative feed additives to promote gastrointestinal health and development in broiler chicken production. Proteins including antimicrobial peptides can potentially be applied as alternatives to antibiotics and are one of the most promising alternatives. We investigated whether the addition of MPX to the diet affects the production performance, immune function and the intestinal flora of the caecal contents of broiler chickens.

Introduction: The virtuality, concealment, uncertainty and complexity of online trading make the online food trading market have security risks, while the lack of information, information asymmetry and imperfect market system make the "lemon problem" in the market increasingly obvious.

Methods: In order to clearly understand and manage the "lemon problem" in the online food trading market, we built an evolutionary game model involving the seller, buyers and online food trading platform, deeply analyzed the formation process of the "lemon problem" in the online food trading market, and revealed the influencing factors and effects of each subject's strategy choice from the perspectives of subsidy, punishment, cost, and benefit.

Results: Findings of this study reveal that: (1) In the online food trading market, the strategy of the seller, buyer and platform will be stable in six situations, and the "lemon problem" will emerge with the development and evolution of the online food trading market.
