Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II regulatory genes play a paramount role in immune response that can exert a predominant influence on clinical outcome of Epstein-Barr virus infection consistently assumed as the main pathogenetic factor for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. To elucidate the relationship between allelic variants of MHC class II regulatory genes and susceptibility to nasopharyngeal carcinoma, a total of 28 polymorphic loci at MHC class II regulatory genes, involving CIITA, CREB1, RFX family genes (RFX5, RFXAP, and RFXANK), and NFY family genes (NFYA, NFYB, and NFYC), were genotyped by multiplex SNaPshot minisequencing in 137 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma and 107 healthy controls from the southern Chinese population. Beta-transducin repeat containing E3 ubiquitin protein ligase (BTRC) is crucial for the degradation of IκBα. Our previous transcriptome sequencing analysis revealed that tetraspanin 15 (TSPAN15) was significantly upregulated in clinical oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues. Here, we show that high TSPAN15 expression in OSCC tissues is significantly associated with lymph node and distant metastasis, advanced clinical stage, and poor prognosis.

Cryptotanshinone, a natural compound isolated from the roots of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge (Danshen), has been found to induce cancer cells apoptosis and impair cell migration and invasion in various malignancies, but its antiproliferation and chemosensitization effects of Cryptotanshinone on tongue squamous cell carcinoma(TSCC)still remain fully elucidated. In this study, the effects of Cryptotanshinone on the proliferation, apoptosis and cell cycle of human TSCC cells, including CAL 27 and SCC 9 cells, were measured. The results demonstrated that Cryptotanshinone dose-dependently inhibited cell migration and proliferation, and induced apoptosis in TSCC cells.

Macrophages play a key role in the pathogenesis of liver granuloma and fibrosis in schistosomiasis. However, the underlying mechanisms have not been fully characterized. This study revealed that the macrophages infiltrating the liver tissues in a murine model of Schistosoma japonica infection exhibited M2 functional polarization, and Notch1/Jagged1 signaling was significantly upregulated in the M2 polarized macrophages in vivo and in vitro.
