It has been reported that upregulation of wingless-type protein 5a (Wnt5a) is associated with poor prognosis in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Wnt5a expression is often upregulated in radiation-resistant NSCLC cells. However, the biological functions or molecular mechanisms of radiosensitivity in NSCLC remain unknown.

Multiple gene-driven programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1)-expressing non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is very rare. Previous studies have shown that patients with NSCLC with anaplastic lymphoma kinase () gene rearrangement rarely benefit from PD-L1 inhibitors. Besides the secondary mutations in gene, other mechanisms might contribute to tumor resistance to ALK tyrosine kinase inhibitors (ALK-TKIs).

Background: Suppressor 3 of cytokine signaling (SOCS3) hypermethylation has been reported to participate in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development and progression, but conflicting results were published. This study aimed to analyze the clinical effects of SOCS3 hypermethylation in HCC and the effects of sex and age on SOCS3 hypermethylation in HCC.

Methods: Databases were searched for relevant case-control and cohort studies on SOCS3 hypermethylation in HBV-related HCC.

Polymorphisms in HIF-1a gene are not associated with diabetic retinopathy in China.

World J Diabetes

August 2021

Department of Endocrinology, Shenzhen University General Hospital, Shenzhen 518055,Guangdong Province, China.

Background: It has been reported that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a susceptibility gene for both type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and diabetic retinopathy (DR). In response to hypoxia, VEGF mRNA levels are increased, which is mainly mediated by the binding of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) and hypoxia response element upstream of the transcriptional start site of VEGF. Therefore, HIF-1a is supposed to be involved in pathology of DR.

To the best of our knowledge, the effect of miR-212-3p on sex-determining region Y-box 11 (SOX11) expression has not been previously investigated and how this effect affects cell proliferation and migration in lymphoma remains unclear. The present study aimed to assess the association between microRNA-212-3p (miR-212-3p) and SOX11, and the effects of miR-212-3p on cell proliferation and migration in mantle cell lymphoma. Cancer tissue and corresponding paracancerous tissue samples were collected from 65 patients with mantle cell lymphoma.

Objectives: This paper explored and analyzed the effect of 5A nursing intervention on living quality and self-care efficacy of patients undergoing postoperative chemotherapy after hepatocellular carcinoma surgery.

Methods: A total of 97 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma hospitalized from March 2017 to June 2019 were chosen as subjects and separated to the control group (n=47) and observation group (n=50) based on the admission time. The control-group received a conventional nursing care mode, and the observation-group was given the 5A nursing care mode in addition to the conventional care mode in the control group.

Purpose: Assessing the downstaging effects of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) in patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LANPC) and predicting response to treatment remain challenging. The present study aimed to evaluate the long-term prognosis of downstaging after NACT in patients with LANPC and to investigate the prognostic value of post-NACT tumor downstaging on treatment outcomes in the era of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT).

Methods: This retrospective study included 226 patients with stage III (n = 188) and IVA (n = 38) NPC admitted to Haikou People's Hospital between 1 October 2009 and 1 October 2012.

Behavioral sensitization, an animal model of drug addiction, persists for a prolonged period after repeated exposure to drugs of abuse. The persistence of an addiction behavioral phenotype suggests long-lasting changes in gene regulation at the epigenetic level. We measured the expression of histone deacetylases (HDACs) isoforms in the prefrontal cortex and dorsal striatum following the development of sensitization to cocaine (15 mg/kg, administered five times) and ethanol (0.

This study aimed to explore the role of small nucleolar RNA host gene 14 (SNHG14) in the pathogenesis of diffuse large-B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). DLBCL cell lines (OCI-Ly7 and OCI-Ly3) and specimens from patients were collected to evaluate the roles of SNHG14 in DLBCL pathogenesis. The results showed that SNHG14 expression increased and miR-152-3p expression decreased in DLBCL tissues and cell lines, indicating a negative correlation between miR-152-3p and SNHG14 expression.
