In recent years, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as critical regulators in plant biology, governing complex gene regulatory networks. In the context of disease resistance in Hevea brasiliensis, the rubber tree, significant progress has been made in understanding its response to anthracnose disease, a serious threat posed by fungal pathogens impacting global rubber tree cultivation and latex quality. While advances have been achieved in unraveling the genetic and molecular foundations underlying anthracnose resistance, gaps persist in comprehending the regulatory roles of lncRNAs and miRNAs under such stress conditions.

As an important part of the ecosystem, saline-alkali soils are in urgent need of efficient and environmentally friendly soil conditioners. Biochar and wood vinegar are regarded as organic soil improvement and plant growth regulators to improve soil physicochemical properties and promote crop growth. However, the mechanism of how inorganic phosphorus bacteria increase phosphorus when biochar and wood vinegar applied to saline-alkali soils is not clear.

Droplet microarray platforms for high-throughput drug screening.

Mikrochim Acta

June 2023

Biomedical Engineering, School of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, 518172, China.

High-throughput screening platforms are fundamental for the rapid and efficient processing of large amounts of experimental data. Parallelization and miniaturization of experiments are important for improving their cost-effectiveness. The development of miniaturized high-throughput screening platforms is essential in the fields of biotechnology, medicine, and pharmacology.

Functional inference of long non-coding RNAs through exploration of highly conserved regions.

Front Genet

May 2023

Hainan Key Laboratory for Sustainable Utilization of Tropical Bioresources, College of Tropical Crops, Hainan University, Haikou, China.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), which are generally less functionally characterized or less annotated, evolve more rapidly than mRNAs and substantially possess fewer sequence conservation patterns than protein-coding genes across divergent species. People assume that the functional inference could be conducted on the evolutionarily conserved long non-coding RNAs as they are most likely to be functional. In the past decades, substantial progress has been made in discussions on the evolutionary conservation of non-coding genomic regions from multiple perspectives.

As a full-fidelity simulation of human cells, tissues, organs, and even systems at the microscopic scale, Organ-on-a-Chip (OOC) has significant ethical advantages and development potential compared to animal experiments. The need for the design of new drug high-throughput screening platforms and the mechanistic study of human tissues/organs under pathological conditions, the evolving advances in 3D cell biology and engineering, etc., have promoted the updating of technologies in this field, such as the iteration of chip materials and 3D printing, which in turn facilitate the connection of complex multi-organs-on-chips for simulation and the further development of technology-composite new drug high-throughput screening platforms.

This study performed large-scale single shear tests on Haikou red clay and arbor taproot to explore the anti-sliding effect and deformation characteristics of rainforest arbor roots under a shallow landslide. The law of root deformation and the root-soil interaction mechanism were revealed. The results indicated the significant reinforcing effect of arbor roots on the shear strength and ductility of soil, which increased with the decrease of normal stress.

Corrective feedback, individual differences in working memory, and L2 development.

Front Psychol

December 2022

Institute of Language Cognition, Carleton University, Ottawa, ON, Canada.

The present study investigated the differential effects of explicit corrections, meta-linguistic corrective feedback (CF), and analogy-based CF on L2 learners' acquisition of English third-person singular form -s and whether and how individual differences in working memory (WM) mediate such effects. One hundred secondary school English-as-a-foreign-language (EFL) learners at a junior middle school in inland China were randomly assigned to the explicit correction group (EG), the meta-linguistic CF group (MG), the analogy-based CF group (AG), and the control group (CG). Learners performed both an information-gap activity and a picture-description activity where their errors on target structure were treated according to their group assignment.

This study used the categorical perception (CP) paradigm, a fine-grained perceptual method, to investigate the perceptual performance of lexical tones in Chinese people with post-stroke aphasia (PWA). Twenty patients with post-stroke aphasia (10 Broca's and 10 Wernicke's) and ten neurologically intact age-matched control participants were recruited to complete both identification and discrimination tasks of the Mandarin Tone 1-2 continuum. In addition, all participants completed tests on their auditory comprehension ability and working memory.

Today's rule of law construction in China is walking between the conflict and coordination of factors such as reality and ideals, tradition and modernity, local and foreign, and local knowledge and universal principles, all while continuing to strengthen the unification of the legal system and advance the modernization of the rule of law. Traditional customary law, which is the most representative local resource culture, is unquestionably one of the most important themes in the formation of the rule of law. It has far-reaching significance for the development of ethnic jurisprudence, the reunderstanding of traditional culture, and the construction of ethnic unity and harmonious society.

With the popularization and application of face recognition technology, a large number of face image data are spread and used on the Internet. It has brought great potential safety hazard for personal privacy. Combined with the characteristics of tent chaos and Henon chaos, a THM (tent-Henon map) chaotic encrypted face algorithm based on Ridgelet-DCT transform is proposed in this paper.
