Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the leading causes of mortality and permanent disabilities worldwide. Brain edema following TBI remains to be the predominant cause of mortality and disability in patients worldwide. Previous studies have reported that brain edema is closely associated with aquaporin-4 (AQP4) expression.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is closely related to the dysregulation of various intracellular signaling pathways, especially the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Reportedly, HSP90 was responsible for phospho-Akt stabilization, and both AKT1 and HSP90 were upregulated within osteosarcoma. Herein, we demonstrated that AKT1 and HSP90 mRNA and protein expression were upregulated within osteosarcoma tissues and cells; AKT1 knockdown significantly inhibited OS cell viability.

Background: The single line of the normal interlobar fissure shown on a thin section image can be reconstructed as a 5-line sign on axial maximal intensity projection. The line between the lung nodule and the pleura is called the pleural tail sign on thin image. On the axial maximal intensity projection, it can also be reconstructed as the 5-line sign or fewer than 5 lines.

Traditional Chinese Medical College, Jinan University, 601 Huangpu West Avenue, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510632, China.

Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of compound Kushen injection (CKI) combined with chemo treatment (chemo) for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: We systematically searched the literature published in seven databases, including Embase, PubMed, central, MEDLINE, CNKI, Wanfang, and VIP, from their inception to April 2019 for all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing CKI plus chemo with chemo alone in patients with NSCLC. Our main end point was clinical efficiency and the secondary outcomes were Karnofsky performance score (KPS), immune function, and adverse events.

Inducing the osteogenic differentiation from bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) might be a potent strategy for treating bone loss and nonunion during fracture and improving fracture healing. Among several signaling pathways involved, mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) have been reported to play a critical role. Magnesium (Mg)-based alloys, including Mg-Zn alloy, have been used clinically as implants in the musculoskeletal field and could promote BMSC osteogenic differentiation.

Association of IL-10-1082A/G polymorphism with cardiovascular disease risk: Evidence from a case-control study to an updated meta-analysis.

Mol Genet Genomic Med

November 2019

Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University and Institute of Clinical Pharmacology, Central South University, Hunan Key Laboratory of Pharmacogenetics, Changsha, P.R. China.

Background: Previous studies have generated controversial results about the association of interleukin 10 (IL-10) gene polymorphisms (-1082G/A) in the progression of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Therefore, this study processed a systemic meta-analysis to verify this association.

Methods: The publication studies on the IL-10 (-1082G/A) polymorphism and CVDs risk were obtained by searching PubMed and Embase databases.

Background: The current study aimed to explore the association between two epigenomic components, miRNA and DNA methylation, in bladder cancer (BC).

Methods: Eight paired samples of tumor tissue and matched adjacent normal tissues from BC patients were subjected to methylated DNA immunoprecipitation sequencing and sRNA-Seq for differentially methylated miRNA genes and differential miRNA analysis. The miRNAs regulated by DNA methylation were screened and their functions involved in BC were analyzed using Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) as well as a miRNA-mRNA interaction network.

January 2020

Department of Urology, Affiliated Haikou Hospital of Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University, Haikou, Hainan Province, China; Haikou Center for Medical Synchrotron Radiation Research, Haikou People's Hospital, Haikou, Hainan Province, China. Electronic address:

The correlation between long-term exposure to SRF-EMR and the decline in male fertility is gradually receiving increasing attention from the medical society. While male reproductive organs are often exposed to SRF-EMR, little is currently known about the direct effects of long-term SRF-EMR exposure on the testes and its involvement in the suppression of male reproductive potential. The present study was designed to investigate this issue by using 4G SRF-EMR in rats.

Previous studies have revealed that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) progression. However, the detailed roles of lncRNA remain to be elucidated. In this study, by analyzing online RNA-Seq data, we found that was upregulated in HNSCC tissues and that its expression level was associated with neoplasm histologic grade.

Background: Cytochrome P450 17A1 (CYP17A1) catalyzes the formation and metabolism of steroid hormones and is required for cortisol and androgens. There is increasing evidence that CYP17A1 plays an important role in the development of coronary heart disease (CHD). However, the association of CYP17A1 polymorphisms and CHD susceptibility is still not clear.

Current strategies to enhance the targeting of polydopamine-based platforms for cancer therapeutics.

J Drug Target

February 2020

Laboratory of Clinical Pharmacy, Ordos School of Clinical Medicine, Inner Mongolia Medical University, Ordos, Inner Mongolia Autonomous region, China.

Polydopamine (PDA), a dopamine-derived endogenous catecholamine polymer, has recently attracted considerable interest as photothermal reagent, particularly interesting in the application of multimodal synergistic cancer therapeutics. For surface-mediated drug delivery, PDA-based platforms exhibited excellent stability, biocompatibility and photothermal performance under the near infra-red (NIR) irradiation. Unfortunately, it was limited by concerns about non-selectivity, lower anticancer efficiency and potential cytotoxicity.

Neuropathic pain developing after peripheral or central nerve injury is the result of pathological changes generated through complex mechanisms. Disruption in the homeostasis of excitatory and inhibitory neurons within the central nervous system is a crucial factor in the formation of hyperalgesia or allodynia occurring with neuropathic pain. The central GABAergic pathway has received attention for its extensive distribution and function in neural circuits, including the generation and development of neuropathic pain.
