Effectiveness of zinc supplementation on the incidence of oral mucositis during chemotherapy and radiation: A meta‑analysis.

Oral mucositis (OM) is a commonly observed and debilitating side effect of chemotherapy and radiation therapy in patients with cancer, especially head and neck cancer. Although there is no proven therapy for the prevention and treatment of OM, zinc supplementation effectively decreases the incidence of OM. This paper provides a current and comprehensive meta-analysis of the efficacy of zinc compared with placebo/control in OM.

Role of Loci (rs28757157 and rs3751591) with Ischemic Stroke Risk in the Chinese Han Population.

Introduction: Ischemic stroke (IS) is a multifactorial and polygenic disease, which is affected by genetic factors. In this study, we explored the role of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in IS in the Chinese population.

Methods: 1302 subjects (651 controls and 651 cases) were recruited in this case-control study.

Aims: The preoperative serum levels of inflammatory mediators, including C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), have been demonstrated to be correlated with patient outcomes in colorectal cancer (CRC); however, the prognostic role of these levels has been less well-studied in postoperative settings.

Materials And Methods: A total of 122 stage I-III CRC patients were retrospectively enrolled. Serum levels of CRP, PCT and IL-6 were measured after surgery, and their prognostic value was evaluated.

Side-effects of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy in patients with gastrointestinal cancers.

Background: Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) produces unwanted side-effects that are mainly caused by chemotherapeutic drugs in the treatment of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, and these effects have not been systematically summarized. The aim of this article was to provide a comprehensive overview of the side-effects of HIPEC for GI cancers and propose practical strategies for adverse event management.

Methodology: PubMed, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library were systematically searched for side-effects of HIPEC in GI cancers prior to October 20, 2022.

Predictive value of acoustic cardiography for post-PCI early ventricular remodeling in acute myocardial infarction.

Acoustic cardiography is a completely new technology, it has great advantages in the rapid diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical value of the fourth heart sound (S4), cardiac systolic dysfunction index (SDI), and the cardiac cycle time-corrected electromechanical activation time (EMATc) in the prediction of post-percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) early ventricular remodeling (EVR) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). We recruited 161 patients with AMI of 72-h post-PCI, including 44 EVR patients with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) < 50% and 117 Non-EVR patients (normal left ventricular systolic function group, LVEF ≥ 50%).

Evaluating Efficacy and Safety of Tacrolimus Treatment in Membranous Nephropathy: Results of a Retrospective Study of 182 Patients.

Purpose: Tacrolimus is recommended by KDIGO Clinical Practice Guidelines as an initial therapy for the treatment of membranous nephropathy (MN). However, little is known about the factors that influence response and recurrence of the disease after tacrolimus therapy, and there are limited data regarding the duration of tacrolimus treatment. Here, we present a real-world retrospective cohort study of 182 MN patients treated with tacrolimus, aiming to assess the efficacy and safety of tacrolimus in the treatment of MN.

Background: Lung cancer is a malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality among cancers. Surgery is currently one of the primary methods of treating lung cancer. Methods: This was a multicentre, single-arm, phase 2 study of KL-A167 in R/M NPC (KL167-2-05-CTP) (NCT03848286), conducted at 42 hospitals across the People's Republic of China.

Purpose: Amide proton transfer-weighted (APTw) imaging was an effective tool to reveal the tissue acidosis of acute ischemic stroke. This study aimed to evaluate the ability of APTw MRI to distinguish progressive penumbra and benign oligemia in the diffusion-perfusion mismatch region.

Materials And Methods: 38 acute cerebral infarction patients who underwent a comprehensive MRI examination, including diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), perfusion-weighted imaging (PWI), APT imaging, and a follow-up scan in one week were recruited.

Pien-Tze-Huang (PZH) is a Chinese traditional medicine with a long history that has been found to be an effective and convenient treatment for inflammatory diseases such as skin abscesses and ulcers. In this study, we assessed the effects of PZH on diabetic wounds and the underlying mechanisms.

Background: Odor perception is highly dependent on respiration, however, the asynchronization between inspiration and odor delivery results in a decreased activation and hemodynamic response function (HRF) curve in olfactory functional MRI (fMRI). This study aimed to investigate the effect of a data post-processing method to minimize the asynchronization and consequently improve the olfactory activation and HRF curve and compare it between different TRs (3 s and 1 s).

In recent years, the regulation of the function of BMSCs by microRNA has become a research hotspot, meanwhile, HOX genes also have been focused on and involved in multiple functions of stem cells. In this study, we investigated the role of miR-139-5p in diabetes-induced BMSC impairment.

A clinical study on clinical features,manifestations and drug resistance of melioidosis.

Objectives: To explore the clinical features, manifestations and drug resistance of melioidosis.

Methods: The clinical data of 45 melioidosis patients treated by Affiliated Haikou Hospital of Xiangya Medical College, Central South University during January 2015 and January 2020 were studied. Informaiton collected included age, birthplace, area of residence, sex, ethnic group, clinical symptoms or signs, colony culture results, degree of drug resistance, treatment regimens and outcomes, department of initial diagnosis, and specimen type, thereby giving an analysis of the clinical features, manifestations, and treatment outcomes of the disease.

Cytotoxic flavonoids from the leaves of hook.

A new flavonoid glycoside, luteolin-3'---D-6″-acetyl glucopyranoside (), along with six known flavonoids, were isolated from the leaves of Hook. The structures of the isolated compounds were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses. Compound exhibited potent cytotoxicity and compounds and exhibited moderate cytotoxicity against human hepatocellular carcinoma SMMC-7721 cells.

miR-193a-5p Enhances the Radioresistance of Pancreatic Cancer Cells by Targeting ZFP57 and Activating the Wnt Pathway.

This study was to investigate whether miR-193a-5p and ZFP57 are involved in the radioresistance of pancreatic cancer and to explore its working mechanism. Pancreatic cancer tissues were harvested from patients who achieved CR (complete remission) and PR (partial remission) and those who achieved PD (progressive disease) and SD (stable disease). The mRNA and protein expressions of ZFP57 and miR-193a-5p were determined by RT-qPCR and WB (Western blot), respectively.

Five new furofurans lignans, Brasesquilignan A-E (), were isolated from the aqueous ethanol extract of Baker. Their structures were elucidated by extensive analysis of NMR and HRESIMS data. Their absolute configurations were determined by CD spectra, enzymatic hydrolysis, and GCMS analysis.
