Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) is associated with male reproductive disorder, but the related mechanisms are still unclear. In this study, we used in vivo and in vitro models to explore the role of Sertoli cell-derived exosomes (SC-Exo)/miR-9-3p/StAR signaling pathway on PFOS-induced suppression of testosterone biosynthesis. Forty male ICR mice were orally administrated PFOS (0.

Enhanced apoptosis of cardiomyocytes in suffering overloaded saturated fatty acids (SFAs) can result in myocardial infarction and cardiac dysfunction. The function of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in cardiomyocyte protection was not clearly described. To investigate the preservative effects of VEGF sensitization on ceramide-mediated programmed cell death of cardiomyocytes, palmitate-induced injury in H9c2 cells was established as an in vitro model.

Role of betulinic acid derivative SH-479 in triple negative breast cancer and bone microenvironment.

Oncol Lett

August 2021

Spine Tumor Center, Department of Orthopedic Oncology, Changzheng Hospital, Second Military Medical University, Shanghai 200003, P.R. China.

Article Synopsis
  • Breast cancer is common and often leads to bone metastasis, particularly in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), which lacks specific treatment targets.
  • Betulinic acid (BA) and its derivative SH-479 have shown promise in inhibiting TNBC proliferation and bone metastasis, with SH-479 proving effective against the TNBC cell line MDA-MB-231 while sparing normal and other cancer cells.
  • The study found that SH-479 affects cellular behavior by disrupting actin structures, reducing cell migration, and influencing immune cell proliferation in the bone marrow, highlighting its potential as a targeted therapy for TNBC.

Background: The number of adult patients affected by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) still remains high, mainly in the developing countries. However, only a few affected patients fail to experience oral lesions in the course of their experience with the virus. In particular, oral mucosa ulcers detected among HIV patients may be severe, which depictions may inhibit oral functioning and change patients' quality of life.

Patellar resurfacing versus nonresurfacing in total knee arthroplasty: an updated meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

J Orthop Surg Res

January 2021

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Hai'an People's Hospital, Zhongba Road 17, Hai'an, Nantong, 226600, Jiangsu, People's Republic of China.

Background: Whether resurface the patella or not in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) was controversial. In 2013, we conducted a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RTCs). After that, plenty of studies have been carried out, but there still existed a great deal of controversy.

Background: Hemorheological parameters have been confirmed to be related with deep vein thrombosis (DVT). This study is aimed to verify whether preoperative erythrocyte electrophoresis exponent was associated with postoperative deep vein thrombosis (DVT) risk after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in patients with primary knee osteoarthritis (KOA).

Methods: From March 2010 to May 2020, a total of 750 consecutive KOA patients who accepted unilateral TKA were enrolled.

Aim: To explore the mechanism by which long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) TTN-AS1 regulates osteosarcoma cell apoptosis and drug resistance via the microRNA miR-134-5p/malignant brain tumour domain containing 1 (MBTD1) axis.

Results: The lncRNA TTN-AS1 was highly expressed in osteosarcoma and was associated with poor prognosis. The lncRNA TTN-AS1 promoted cell viability and inhibited apoptosis.

A genome-wide association study identifies six novel risk loci for primary biliary cholangitis.

Nat Commun

April 2017

Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Renji Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai Institute of Digestive Disease, Shanghai 200001, China.

Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is an autoimmune liver disease with a strong hereditary component. Here, we report a genome-wide association study that included 1,122 PBC cases and 4,036 controls of Han Chinese descent, with subsequent replication in a separate cohort of 907 PBC cases and 2,127 controls. Our results show genome-wide association of 14 PBC risk loci including previously identified 6p21 (HLA-DRA and DPB1), 17q12 (ORMDL3), 3q13.
