Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among Swedish men. To get this diagnose is not only a threat to the men's lives but also to their quality of life because the treatment often affects sexuality, bladder function and bowel function. It is therefore particularly problematic that the rehabilitation of men after treatment for prostate cancer often does not reach the standards set out in the national guidelines.

Background: Multiple myeloma (MM), an incurable disease characterized by frequent relapses and a need for multiple treatments, often progresses to a relapse/refractory status resistant to all available drugs and drug classes. Bispecific antibodies, specifically BCMA T-cell engagers, have emerged as effective treatments for MM, demonstrating impressive efficacy. However, these treatments can adversely affect the immune system, increasing vulnerability to infections.

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) based screening is controversial, even though randomised trials show that screening can reduce prostate cancer mortality. The main reason is that screening leads to overdiagnosis of indolent cancers that would never have surfaced clinically in the absence of screening. Recently, several large studies have shown that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) improves prostate cancer diagnostics.

Few studies have evaluated the implementation of ICBT in regular child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). This study aimed to explore the acceptability, feasibility, and effectiveness of ICBT for children and adolescents with anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) within a rural CAMHS. The study also explored outcome predictors and long-term outcomes.

Background: Most trials that have shown a benefit of beta-blocker treatment after myocardial infarction included patients with large myocardial infarctions and were conducted in an era before modern biomarker-based diagnosis of myocardial infarction and treatment with percutaneous coronary intervention, antithrombotic agents, high-intensity statins, and renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system antagonists.
Methods: In a parallel-group, open-label trial performed at 45 centers in Sweden, Estonia, and New Zealand, we randomly assigned patients with an acute myocardial infarction who had undergone coronary angiography and had a left ventricular ejection fraction of at least 50% to receive either long-term treatment with a beta-blocker (metoprolol or bisoprolol) or no beta-blocker treatment. The primary end point was a composite of death from any cause or new myocardial infarction.

Background: The registry-based randomized VALIDATE-SWEDEHEART trial (NCT02311231) compared bivalirudin vs. heparin in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for myocardial infarction (MI). It showed no difference in the composite primary endpoint of death, MI, or major bleeding at 180 days.

The Swedish Perioperative Registry (SPOR) offers a unique opportunity for monitoring the peri- and early postoperative processes. It can be utilized for quality monitoring within individual clinics or for epidemiological studies. Combining SPOR's data with organ-specific registries provides a more comprehensive understanding of the overall peri- and early postoperative care and outcomes of surgical procedures.

Background: The rPAP respiratory support system, used for delivery room stabilisation with nasal prongs, has been shown to reduce the need for intubation in extremely preterm infants. A simplified version of the system has been developed. The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of providing uninterrupted respiratory support with the simplified rPAP from birth up to 4 hours of life and to assess ease of use for skin-to skin stabilisation.

Diabetes and periodontitis are two global epidemics. There is a two-way relationship between diabetes and periodontitis. Diabetes increases the risk of periodontitis and periodontitis increases the risk for deteriorating glucose levels, having undetected diabetes, and for future diabetes.

Aim: To evaluate Sweden's first implementation of a 24/7 high-acuity virtual in-patient ward through a digi-physical in-patient care (DPIPC) program, a hospital-at-home care model combining a virtual hospital-based medical command centre and in-person ambulating medical services functioning as an extension of the Department of Medicine at a secondary-level hospital in Stockholm.
Methods: A single-centre descriptive study where adult patients with acute medical illness requiring inpatient-level care were assessed for voluntary treatment in the DPIPC program as a substitute for traditional in-patient care. The primary outcome was patient satisfaction with care.

This proof of concept study presents a method to collect and analyse kinetic data from one participant with a transfemoral amputation fitted with a percutaneous osseointegrated implant walking on a level and sloped treadmill. We describe the construction of and results from a bespoke wireless six axis load cell built into one participant's prosthetic assembly. The load cell does not clinically compromise the participant in any way and is an initial milestone in the development of a light-weight wireless load cell for use with percutaneous osseointegrated implants.

Radical cystectomy (RC) for bladder cancer is a complex procedure with an inherent risk of complications and even postoperative mortality. Historically, RC was performed in 44 hospitals in Sweden, which gradually decreased over time, and since a formal regional centralisation of these operations in 2017, cystectomy care is currently provided by nine hospitals. In the Swedish national urinary bladder cancer register (SNRUBC), complications after RC has been registered with high coverage since 2012, with data presented in an interactive online data resource (RODRET).

Recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) has been abused as a performance enhancer in sports for several years, but with advancements in detection methods, even micro-doses can be detected in dried blood spot (DBS) samples. Here, we present the results from an Eporatio® (epoetin theta) micro-dose administration study to detect rhEPO in DBS samples. Five healthy male volunteers received a 15 IU/kg subcutaneous dose of Eporatio®.

Background: Exfoliative glaucoma (XFG) is a subtype of open-angle glaucoma characterized by distinctive extracellular fibrils and a yet unknown pathogenesis potentially involving immune-related factors. The aim of this exploratory study was to identify biomarkers for XFG using data from autoimmunity profiling performed on blood samples from a Scandinavian cohort of patients.
Methods: Autoantibody screening was analyzed against 258 different protein fragments in blood samples taken from 30 patients diagnosed with XFG and 30 healthy donors.
