Glycogen storage disease type III (GSDIII) is a hereditary glycogenosis caused by deficiency of the glycogen debranching enzyme (GDE), an enzyme, encoded by , enabling glycogen degradation by catalyzing alpha-1,4-oligosaccharide side chain transfer and alpha-1,6-glucose cleavage. GDE deficiency causes accumulation of phosphorylase-limited dextrin, leading to liver disorder followed by fatal myopathy. Astaxanthin (ATX) is a carotenoid nutraceutical with poor bioavailability due to its high lipophilicity. We tested a new tailored nanodroplet capable of solubilizing ATX in an oil-in-water micro-environment (LDS-ATX) for its capacity to improve the ATX pharmacokinetic profile and therapeutic efficacy. We used liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to profile the pharmacokinetics of ATX and LDS-ATX, superoxide mutase (SOD) activity to determine their antioxidant capacity, protein carbonylation and lipid peroxidation to compare their basal and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced oxidative damage, and ELISA-based detection of IL-2 and IFN-γ to determine their anti-inflammatory capacity.

The role of parental factors in the emergence of post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSSs) following pediatric surgeries is well recognized, but the specific influence of parents' subjective preparedness for their child's surgery has not been explored. In a study involving 253 children hospitalized in a pediatric surgery ward, parents completed a demographic questionnaire during their child's stay, which included the question, "As a parent, have you been prepared for the surgical intervention your child is undergoing?" Four months post-surgery, the same parents were interviewed using two questionnaires that evaluated their children's post-traumatic symptoms. Our findings indicate that in emergency surgical settings, children whose parents felt prepared experienced significantly fewer PTSSs compared to children whose parents did not feel prepared.

Rasagiline (Azilect) is a selective monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) inhibitor that provides symptomatic benefits in Parkinson's disease (PD) treatment and has been found to exert preclinical neuroprotective effects. Here, we investigated the neuroprotective signaling pathways of acute rasagiline treatment for 22 h in PC12 neuronal cultures exposed to oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) for 4 h, followed by 18 h of reoxygenation (R), causing 40% aponecrotic cell death. In this study, 3-10 µM rasagiline induced dose-dependent neuroprotection of 20-80%, reduced the production of the neurotoxic reactive oxygen species by 15%, and reduced the nuclear translocation of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) by 75-90%.

Our goal is to apply artificial intelligence (AI) and statistical analysis to understand the relationship between various factors and outcomes during pregnancy and labor and delivery, in order to personalize birth management and reduce complications for both mothers and newborns. We use a structured electronic health records database with data from approximately 130,000 births to train, test and validate our models. We apply machine learning (ML) methods to predict various obstetrical outcomes before and during labor, with the aim of improving patient care management in the delivery ward.

Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is a critical protein in cancer cell growth that signifies the aggressiveness of breast cancer (BC) and helps predict its prognosis. Here, we introduce a deep learning-based approach utilizing pyramid sampling for the automated classification of HER2 status in immunohistochemically (IHC) stained BC tissue images. Accurate assessment of IHC-stained tissue slides for HER2 expression levels is essential for both treatment guidance and understanding of cancer mechanisms.
