Previous studies have shown a high incidence of cardiovascular complications when noncardiac surgery (NCS) is performed after coronary stenting. No study has compared the outcomes of NCS after stenting compared with percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) alone. The records of all patients who underwent NCS within 3 months of percutaneous coronary intervention at our institution were reviewed for adverse clinical events with the end points of acute myocardial infarction, major bleeding, and death < or = 6 months after NCS.
