Patient nonadherence to healthcare follow-up appointments is an ever-growing problem leading to worsened health outcomes and increased morbidity and mortality. Social factors, namely lack of transportation, are commonly implicated as a cause for the lack of following up. Medical students make up a significant portion of the healthcare team but are mostly viewed as passive learners on clinical rotations and do not receive many active opportunities to engage in direct clinical care.

Increased functionality and quality of life require collaborative efforts between the patient's surgeon, prosthetist, hand therapists, mental health professionals, and peers. An individual surgeon may find that initiating and maintaining a practice offering total integrated treatment for upper-extremity amputees is a formidable task, but with specific, actionable recommendations, the process can be demystified.

Primary fallopian tube carcinoma (PFTC) is a rare disease. However, early infarcts are hard to diagnose on conventional head CT. We hypothesize that high-energy (190keV) virtual monochromatic images (VMI) from dual-energy CT (DECT) imaging enables earlier detection of secondary injury from malignant cerebral edema (MCE).

Right ventricular (RV) dysfunction and resultant acute right heart failure (ARHF) is a rapidly growing field of interest, driven by increasing appreciation of its contribution to heart failure morbidity and mortality. Understanding of ARHF pathophysiology has advanced dramatically over recent years and can be broadly described as RV dysfunction related to acute changes in RV afterload, contractility, preload, or left ventricular dysfunction. There are several diagnostic clinical signs and symptoms as well as imaging and hemodynamic assessments that can provide insight into the degree of RV dysfunction.

Background: Degeneration of the cardiac conduction system resulting in complete heart block (CHB), ventricular arrhythmias (VA), and sudden cardiac death (SCD) is recognized in patients with Kearns-Sayre syndrome (KSS) and is potentially preventable with permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation. However, other mechanisms for SCD have been proposed, and the efficacy of implanting a defibrillator instead of PPM remains to be investigated.
Methods: We utilized the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database 2016-2019 to investigate the risk of VA or dysrhythmic cardiac arrest (dCA) in KSS patients.

Reported cases have described treatment with various mouthwashes containing antivirals, antifungals, antibiotics, anesthetics, or steroids. Our case report is unique in that we provide guidance on the judicious use of these medications, followed by photobiomodulation therapy if the manifestations are treatment resistant.
