Objectives: Empirical antibiotic use is common among hospitalized patients with coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia because it is difficult to differentiate it from concurrent bacterial pneumonia. The aim of this study was to determine risk factors for concurrent bacterial community-acquired pneumonia (b-CAP) and the need for initial empirical antibiotic coverage in patients with pulmonary involvement caused by Severe acute respiratory syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.
Materials And Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted at a tertiary university hospital between March 2020 and April 2021.

Objectives: Dyslipidemia is a well-established risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). ASCVD prevalence among people living with HIV (PLWH) is twice that of the general population. This study aimed to evaluate the infectious diseases (ID) physicians' attitudes on dyslipidemia management in PLWH.

Alcohol consumption poses a significant risk for the development of chronic illnesses, one of the leading causes of "preventable" disease and death worldwide. Harmful consumption of alcohol is thought to result in approximately 2.5-3 million deaths each year, the majority of which are caused by alcohol-related liver diseases.

The isolated perfused rat liver (IPRL) model provides a mechanistic understanding of the organic-anion-transporting polypeptide (OATP/Oatp)-mediated pharmacokinetics in the preclinical evaluation, which often requires the use of control substrates (i.e., pitavastatin) and monitoring endogenous biomarkers (coproporphyrin I and III).

Aims: Recently, dose delivery technology has rapidly evolved with flattening filter-free beams (FFF), and the biological effects of high dose rates are a matter of interest. We hypothesized that FFF beams at different dose rates obtained with modern linear accelerators have different effects on the TME.
Materials And Methods: The B16-F10 melanoma syngeneic tumor model was established, and mice were randomized to 2 different doses (2 Gy and 10 Gy) and 3 different dose rates (1 Gy/min, 6 Gy/min, and 14 Gy/min) along with the control group.

Compliance with guidelines in the empirical treatment for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is very important to increase treatment success and reduce mortality. This study aimed to determine compliance with guideline recommendations for CAP and define the role of the clinical pharmacist (CP). Patients diagnosed with CAP were evaluated retrospectively between January 2018 and January 2020 and prospectively between February 2020 and February 2021.

Urinary omics has become a powerful tool for elucidating pathophysiology of glomerular diseases. However, no urinary omics analysis has been performed yet on renal AA amyloidosis. Here, we performed a comparative urine proteomic and metabolomic analysis between recently diagnosed renal AA amyloidosis (AA) and membranous nephropathy (MN) patients.

Aging is the most prominent risk factor for many diseases, which is considered to be a complicated biological process. The rate of aging depends on the effectiveness of important mechanisms such as the protection of DNA from free radicals, which protects the structural and functional integrity of cells and tissues. In any organism, not all organs may age at the same rate.

Azole antifungals, including fluconazole, have long been the first-line antifungal agents in the fight against fungal infections. The emergence of drug-resistant strains and the associated increase in mortality from systemic mycoses has prompted the development of new agents based on azoles. We reported a synthesis of novel monoterpene-containing azoles with high antifungal activity and low cytotoxicity.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that causes memory loss and dementia and is characterized by a decline in cognitive functions. Brain infections, especially induced by herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1), are suggested to play a key role in the pathogenesis of AD. Within the scope of this study, two different AD models (Tau model and amyloid beta [Aβ]) were created in the SH-SY5Y cell line, and HSV glycoprotein B (gB) was applied to the cell line and on the generated AD models.
