Article Synopsis
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in women that is linked to eating problems, and this study explores how it affects taste function and eating behavior.
  • In comparing 44 women with PCOS to 36 healthy women, it was found that those with PCOS had significantly lower scores for sour and salty tastes, although sweet and bitter tastes were similar between the groups.

Objectives: Monitoring children's development of auditory perception, speech and language after implant programming is critical to post-implantation success. Most of the time, it is not possible to perform an evaluation in clinical conditions, and the tests administered may not provide adequate data on children's everyday functional hearing skills. Therefore, administration of functional hearing measures alongside clinical tests will present supplementary data as to both language development and functional hearing performance of children.

Background: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders and has a big impact on the well-being of children. The disorder can lead to noticeable functional limitations for children and bio-ecological factors also contribute to symptoms of ADHD. We aimed to investigate the associations between ADHD symptoms and some related bio-ecological factors including serum ferritin, zinc levels and sensory processing in preschool-aged children.

The present study aims to evaluate the effect of timing of cleft palate repair on speech results by using objective assessment tools, under standardized variables. The patients included in the study were divided into three groups according to their age of palatal repair. Velopharyngeal closure was evaluated anatomically by nasopharyngoscopy, and the nasalance values were recorded and evaluated objectively by nasometer.

Article Synopsis
  • Limited evidence indicates a connection between gut microbiota dysbiosis and PCOS, prompting a study to compare gut microbiota in lean women with PCOS to healthy women.
  • The study involved 24 lean PCOS patients and 22 healthy controls, using stool samples for microbiome analysis and noting that overall bacterial richness and diversity were similar between the groups.
  • However, specific bacterial families showed significant differences, with certain bacteria more abundant in the PCOS group, suggesting that hyperandrogenism is linked to changes in gut microbiome composition.

Background/aims: Psychobiotics are probiotics or prebiotics that, upon ingestion in adequate amounts, yield positive influence on mental health via microbiota-gut-brain axis regulation to modulate the circulating cytokines, chemokines, neurotransmitters, or neurotrophins levels. We have recently shown that a psychobiotic combination ( R0052 and R0175; CEREBIOME) significantly improved depression symptoms in patients with depression. Recent animal data suggest the influence of the gut microbiota on brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which was shown to correlate with antidepressant response in depressive patients.
