Lipid metabolism often includes the digestion and absorption of dietary fat, and the ways in which cancer cells utilize lipids are often influenced by the complex interactions within the tumor microenvironment. Among multiple cancer risk factors, obesity has a positive association with multiple cancer types, while diets like calorie restriction and fasting improve health and delay cancer.

Assessment of expertise in morphological identification of mosquito species (Diptera, Culicidae) using photomicrographs.

Accurate identification of insect species is an indispensable and challenging requirement for every entomologist, particularly if the species is involved in disease outbreaks. The European MediLabSecure project designed an identification (ID) exercise available to any willing participant with the aim of assessing and improving knowledge in mosquito taxonomy. The exercise was based on high-definition photomicrographs of mosquitoes (26 adult females and 12 larvae) collected from the western Palaearctic.

Yeast Identification During Fermentation of Turkish Gemlik Olives.

Unlabelled: Naturally fermented black table olives of the Gemlik variety are one of the most consumed fermented products in Turkey. The objective of this work was to identify yeast strains isolated during their natural fermentation by using Restriction Fragments Lengths Polymorphism-Polimerase Chain Reaction (RFLP-PCR) and DNA sequencing methods. The study also focused on determining the effect of regional differences on yeast microflora of naturally fermented Gemlik olives.

Condensed heterocyclic compounds: synthesis and antiinflammatory activity of novel thiazolo[3,2-alpha] pyrimidines.

In this study, thirty six new 2-benzylidene-7-methyl-3-oxo-5- phenyl-2,3-dihydro-5H-thiazolo[3,2-alpha]pyrimidine-6-carboxylic acid methyl esters were synthesized and characterized by spectral, crystallographic, and elemental analysis. The antiinflammatory activity of the compounds was tested by the carrageenan hind paw edema test. It was found that compound 6a having a 2-meth-oxyphenyl group at position 5 and a benzylidene group at position 2 was the most potent compound in this series.

The Turkish experience of poliomyelitis before and after a vaccination campaign.

It is very important that the poliovirus is eradicated as it has caused serious and permanent disabilities during the present century. In order to achieve success in the rehabilitation of poliomyelitis patients the role of vaccination compaigns as an essential part of preventive medical care should be appreciated. After every vaccination campaign successful results have been obtained.

[Fournier's gangrene: report of 6 cases].

6 patients with Fournier's gangrene a rare but life threatening disease, who were successfully managed are presented. Mortality rates between 17-45 percent have been reported for this disease, but through the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, aggressive surgical debridement and when possible with multiple drainage incisions to avoid skin defects, the mortality rate has been reduced to 0 percent. We have found an association with diabetes mellitus in 2 cases, which is one of the serious predisposition factors and should not be forgotten.
