Revisiting Africa's Stroke Obstacles and Services (SOS).

Background: As one of the most common non-communicable diseases in Africa, Stroke ought to be dealt with properly with intensifying efforts to control its burden and to face obstacles in its management.

Methods And Results: In this follow-up study we reanalyzed stroke services and related obstacles in 17 African countries that were previously studied in 2021/22 in aspects related to manpower, acute stroke services, rehabilitation programs, number of stroke units/centers, telestroke services, awareness campaigns, and national and international stroke registries through a survey that was sent to stroke specialists and national stroke societies. Overall, there is an improvement in many fields yet many obstacles in the implementation of telestroke services, acute management, secondary prevention, post-discharge services, and follow-ups whether governmental, medical, or societal are prevalent.

An unusual cause of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in an infant: A case report and brief literature review.

Introduction: Nemaline myopathy (NM), also known as Nemalinosis, is a rare congenital muscle disease with an incidence of 1 in 50000. It is characterized by nemaline rods in muscle fibers, leading to muscle weakness. We reported a case of NM revealed by cardiac involvement, and we highlighted the challenges in diagnosing this condition as well as its poor prognosis.

Keratoconus in children in Tunisia: Epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic features.

Aim: To report the clinical and therapeutic particularities of pediatric keratoconus (KC).

Methods: Retrospective study focusing on patients aged less than 18 years, presenting with KC and followed in a tertiary reference center in Sfax, Tunisia.

Results: Our study involved 38 eyes of 20 children.

Detection of multiple myositis-specific antibodies: prevalence and clinical significance.

Background: The multipositivity of myositis-specific antibodies (MSAs) is uncommon. Our study aimed to assess the prevalence and the clinical relevance of multiple positive MSAs in routine practice.

Methods: A 10 year single-center retrospective study (2015-2024) was conducted reviewing all samples analyzed with the Dot Myositis EUROLINE (Euroimmun Germany).

Optical coherence tomography in multiple sclerosis: A Tunisian tertiary center study.

Purpose: To study retinal layers on OCT in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and look for correlations with clinical and electrophysiological characteristics.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study including MS patients aged between 18 and 60 years and a reference group of healthy, age- and gender-matched, control participants. A neurological examination with assessment of disability by the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), an ophthalmological examination, a spectral-domain OCT, and visual evoked potentials (VEP) were performed.

12-week melatonin intake attenuates cardiac autonomic dysfunction and oxidative stress in multiple sclerosis patients: a randomized controlled trial.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) can induce cardiac autonomic dysfunction identified by a decreased heart rate variability (HRV) which was linked to oxidative stress, vitamin D deficiency and sleep disturbance. Previous MS studies revealed the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of exogenous melatonin, as well as its benefits on sleep and vitamin D. We aimed to investigate the change in HRV, oxidative stress, systemic inflammation and sleep following melatonin supplementation in MS patients.

Pelvic incidence in thoracolumbar fractures: Is there an impact?

Introduction: In trauma, we can perform a lateral radiography of the lumbosacral hinge taking the femoral heads if we include it in the initial lesion assessment. Thus, the pelvic incidence informs about the type of back as described by Roussouly.

Aim: To describe the clinical and radiological results of these types of back which are operated on for a thoracolumbar fracture.

The widespread use of pesticides, particularly in combinations, has resulted in enhanced hazardous health effects. However, little is known about their molecular mechanism of interactions. The aim of this study was to assess the neurotoxicity effect of pesticides in mixtures by adopting a 3D in vitro developed neurospheroid model, followed by treatment by increased concentrations of pesticides for 24 h and analysis by a shotgun proteomic-based approach with high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry.

Relationship between homocysteine, vitamin B9, vitamin B12 levels methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (C677T, A1298C) polymorphisms, and cryptogenic stroke in Tunisian adults´ patients: a case-control study.

Pseudoglandular hyperplasia of the conjunctiva: A rare entity.

Objective: Pseudoglandular hyperplasia of the conjunctiva (PHC) is a rare benign epithelial pseudotumor. We report herein a new case of this rare entity, review its histopathological features and discuss its differential diagnoses.

Methods: The morphologic findings of PHC of the right eye occurring in a 65-year-old man are reported with a review of the related literature.

Benefits of self-paced concurrent training on lung function, cardiopulmonary fitness and fatigue perception in patients with multiple sclerosis.

Studying the effects of self-paced concurrent high-intensity interval training and resistance training (HIIT-RT) on respiratory function, cardiopulmonary fitness and fatigue perception in patients with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). Twenty-three PwMS were randomized into a 12-week training group (three times per week) (TG, n = 11) or a control group (CG, n = 12). Lung function (spirometry), aerobic capacity (graded cardiopulmonary-exercise-testing) and perceived fatigue (Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS)) were evaluated pre- and post-intervention.

Outcomes and Risk Factors for Morbidity After Lung Hydatidosis Surgery in Children.

Objective: To examine outcomes and associated risk factors for children who undergo surgery for lung hydatidosis (LH).

Study Design: Through a retrospective and analytical-aim-study, over a period of 35 years in 2 surgical departments, we reported all operative cases for LH in children, regardless of cyst number, location, and aspect. Univariate and multivariable analyses were used to assess variables potentially predictive of postoperative morbidity.

Eight weeks of oral iron supplementation improves postural control in young women with iron deficiency anemia.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the effect of 8-week oral supplementation on postural control in young women with iron deficiency anemia (IDA).

Methods: This study involved 15 women with IDA who received 160 mg of elemental iron daily in the form of dried ferrous sulfate capsules (80 mg twice daily) taken in two divided doses for 8 weeks. The mean velocity of oscillations of the center of pressure (CoPv) was recorded to evaluate postural control pre- and post-supplementation.

Parathyroid carcinoma (PC) is a rare endocrine malignancy. We report 6 cases of PCs operated on in our department, during a period of 12 years (2010-2021). All of our patients presented severe hyperparathyroidism, high calcium levels, and very elevated parathormone (PTH) rates.

Primary Ewing Sarcoma in the Sphenoidal Sinus: A Case Report.

Ewing's sarcoma (EWS) is a rare malignant bone tumor that primarily affects children and young adults. While it typically affects long bones, it can occur in the head and neck region, including the paranasal sinuses in rare cases. We present a challenging case of a 45-year-old female diagnosed with an EWS of the sphenoidal and the right nasal fossa.

Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis in patients with acute leukemia.

Introduction: Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis is a serious complication in hematology.

Aim: Describe the prevalence, diagnostic aspects, therapeutic modalities, and evolution of the IPA cases occurring in patients with acute leukemia.
